Test Research, Inc. (TRI) opened a new R&D and manufacturing facility in Taipei, Taiwan, on May 14, 2024. Located next to the company’s existing manufacturing hub in Linkou, the facility is intended to expand production and support development of inspection solutions for semiconductor and advanced-packaging markets.
What TRI opened and where it is
TRI announced the opening of a combined research-and-development and manufacturing facility in Taipei, alongside its existing Linkou manufacturing hub. The company described the opening as part of its 35-year growth. Its announcement does not give a facility investment amount, floor area, employee count, or a numeric production-capacity increase. What the facility is intended to do
TRI says the expansion increases production capacity and adds dedicated demonstration rooms as well as workshop and seminar space. These areas give customers a setting to evaluate inspection systems and take part in technical events, while the site combines product development with manufacturing.
The stated development focus is new technologies and inspection solutions for semiconductor and advanced-packaging applications. That is the company’s stated purpose; the announcement does not publish customer commitments or performance results tied to the new facility.

What this means for semiconductor and advanced-packaging inspection
Bringing development, production, demonstrations, and technical events together at one site can support TRI’s work on inspection needs in these markets and give prospective customers a place to assess systems. It does not, by itself, establish that a particular product has achieved a new benchmark or that all four named technologies are optimized for every semiconductor or advanced-packaging process.
For a buyer evaluating inspection equipment, the practical choice depends on the defect of interest and the production process: solder-paste measurement, visible-feature inspection, hidden-structure imaging, and electrical testing answer different questions. A meaningful comparison also needs application-specific evidence on throughput, defect visibility, line integration, metrology requirements, programming effort, and total cost of ownership—figures not supplied in TRI’s opening announcement.
