You can resize or reposition the on-screen keyboard through Samsung Keyboard’s Size and transparency controls. Open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Size and transparency, adjust the side handles or center arrow, then tap Done. These steps apply to Samsung Keyboard; menus and available controls can vary by Galaxy model, carrier, software version, and region.
Resize or move Samsung Keyboard
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management, then Samsung Keyboard settings. If you do not see that option, search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard.”
- Tap Size and transparency.
- Drag the handles at the keyboard’s sides inward to make it smaller or outward to make it larger.
- Use the arrow control in the center to move the keyboard to a more convenient position.
- Tap Done to apply the adjustment. To restore the original size, tap Reset.
Samsung’s screens and labels can vary between devices and software versions. Its Galaxy phone and tablet keyboard instructions describe the size and position controls; Samsung Japan’s keyboard size guidance, updated July 13, 2026, also notes that details can vary by version.
Choose a keyboard layout for how you use the screen
Resizing and repositioning are not the only options. Samsung Keyboard offers layouts intended for different screen arrangements, though not every Galaxy device supports every mode.

Samsung’s Galaxy tablet keyboard guide lists Standard, Split, and Floating layouts for tablets; its phone guidance also covers One-handed mode. Treat these as options to try rather than a guarantee that a particular mode is available or preferable on every device.

Find the layout controls from the keyboard
If the keyboard is already open, Samsung Philippines documents another route: tap the toolbar’s three-dot More control, then choose Modes. You can also check Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Mode. Toolbar arrangement and menu labels can differ across software versions. See Samsung’s Galaxy keyboard settings guidance for that route.
If “Size and transparency” is missing
- Check which keyboard is active. These instructions are for Samsung Keyboard, not third-party keyboards such as Gboard, which have their own settings.
- Search Settings. Search for “Samsung Keyboard” to find the relevant settings on devices with a different menu arrangement.
- Open keyboard settings from a text field. If Samsung Keyboard is active, its settings gear may provide a shortcut.
- Check for device-specific differences. Samsung says available options and menu locations can vary by phone or tablet model, carrier, and software version.
If you use a Galaxy Tab and would rather type on physical keys, Samsung notes that compatible Book Cover Keyboards are available. Compatibility depends on the exact tablet model; a physical keyboard is not needed to change the on-screen keyboard’s size or position.
