Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If your Fios Wi-Fi extender keeps disconnecting, first check whether the Fios router still has internet and whether the extender is powered and connected to that router. Then check the extender’s model-specific status light and placement before rebooting it. Verizon sells several extender generations, and pairing, wiring, and reset instructions differ by model—identify both the extender and router before following device-specific steps.
1. Check whether the problem is the router, extender, or internet service
Test a phone or computer near the router, not just through the extender. If the router itself has no internet, the extender is unlikely to be the cause; check the router’s WAN connection and contact Verizon if service remains unavailable. If internet works by the router but not through the extender, focus on the extender’s connection to the router.
- Confirm the extender is plugged in and powered.
- Check its status indicator against the guide for the exact model. A light can indicate whether it has connected to the router, but its meaning is not universal across Fios extenders.
- For an E3200, inspect the router’s WAN coax or Ethernet cable and make sure it is seated at both ends. Verizon’s network extender support page links to model-specific support, and its E3200 user guide begins connection troubleshooting with the router connection.
2. Use the E3200 light to improve placement
If your extender is an E3200, place it upright between the router and the area with weak Wi-Fi—not at the far edge of the weak zone, where its own connection to the router may also be poor. Verizon says finding the best location may take experimentation.
- Fast-blinking yellow: Verizon says the E3200 is too close to the gateway. Move it farther away.
- Slow-blinking yellow: It is too far away. Move it closer to the gateway.
Those light meanings are specific to the E3200; consult the guide for another model. Verizon recommends keeping the E3200 at least 10 feet from cordless phones and microwaves, and away from large metal objects, moisture, dust, and temperature extremes. If available, use the Wi-Fi Analyzer in the My Verizon app to help assess coverage. See Verizon’s extender placement and status-light guidance.

3. Confirm the extender and router support the same connection method
“Fios extender” covers different equipment. Before attempting WPS pairing or switching to a wired connection, find the model number on the extender and router, then check Verizon’s guide for that combination.
| Extender or setup | Router compatibility and backhaul | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| E3200 | Verizon lists the G3100 and CR1000A/B as compatible routers. With a CR1000A/B, the E3200 requires a wired coax or Ethernet connection. Verizon lists support for up to 1 Gbps for connected client devices in that configuration; this is a device specification, not a guarantee of internet speed. | Verify the router model and the required wiring. Consult Verizon’s E3200 support page. |
| WCB6200Q or WCB3000N | These legacy extenders require a wired coax or Ethernet backhaul; they do not connect wirelessly to the router. | Check the existing coax or Ethernet link and follow the exact model’s guide. Verizon’s network extender support page covers its extender models. |
| Non-Verizon extender | Verizon says non-Verizon extenders may work with Fios routers, but setup may need to be manual. | Use the extender maker’s instructions and confirm its compatibility with your router; do not assume Verizon WPS or reset steps apply. |
A wired backhaul can help when the wireless link between router and extender is unreliable, but only if both devices support the relevant wired connection and you can route the cable. The E3200 guide documents coax and Ethernet setup; it does not require a particular Ethernet cable category.

4. Reboot the extender, then power-cycle it
For an E3200, Verizon’s 2023 guide distinguishes a short reboot from a factory reset. Try the less disruptive actions first:
- Press the red button on the back of the E3200 for 2–4 seconds to start a reboot.
- Wait 3–5 minutes. Retry the connection when the status light is solid white.
- If the problem remains, unplug the extender for two minutes. During that wait, power-cycle the phone or computer that is having trouble.
- Reconnect the extender’s power, wait another 3–5 minutes, and test again.
These button timings and light instructions are for the E3200, not every Fios extender. Verizon’s E3200 guide (2023) cautions: “The advanced settings should only be configured by experienced network technicians to avoid adversely affecting the operation of your Wi-Fi Extender and your local network.”

If other devices stay connected through the extender, troubleshoot the affected client before changing extender settings:
- Move the device closer to the extender and confirm Wi-Fi is enabled.
- Check that it is using the intended network name (SSID) and the correct saved password.
- Turn Wi-Fi off and on, then restart the device.
- Test a second phone or computer in the same location and check that the affected device’s software is current.
If another device works while the first continues to drop, Verizon’s guide treats the first device’s configuration as a likely cause. Avoid resetting the extender to solve a problem isolated to one client.

- DEAD ZONES, ELIMINATED: Bring WiFi 6 to the rooms your router cannot reach - bedrooms, garage, basement, and backyard - with up to 1,500 sq. ft. of added coverage for up to 20 devices, from any wall outlet
- ONE WIFI NAME ACROSS YOUR HOME: Smart Roaming keeps your existing network name and moves each device to the strongest signal automatically, so there is no manual switching and no dropped calls or streams as you move room to room
- EASY SET UP: Use the NETGEAR Nighthawk app for guided setup, or press WPS on your router and the extender
- STREAM AND GAME ON EVERY DEVICE: Let more devices stream, game, and video call at once with up to 1.8 Gbps (AX1800) across two bands with 4 streams, plus a Gigabit Ethernet port. Real-world speeds vary depending on connected devices and internet plan
- WORKS WITH THE ROUTER YOU ALREADY HAVE: Connects to any router or gateway from Xfinity, Spectrum, AT&T, Cox, or Verizon and rebroadcasts its signal. It extends your router, it does not replace it, with no closed ecosystem to lock you in
6. Reset only after checking the exact model
A factory reset erases saved extender settings and can require connected devices to reconnect. It is not the same as the short E3200 reboot. Use a factory reset only after checking the model-specific instructions and trying less disruptive fixes.
- E3200: Verizon’s guide says to hold the reset button for at least 10 seconds for a factory reset. The 2–4 second press described above reboots it instead.
- CE1000A: Verizon provides a separate, device-specific reset procedure and warns that reset deletes configuration, so connected clients must reconnect. Follow the CE1000A instructions, rather than applying the E3200 button timing.
For any other extender, consult its own guide before pressing or holding a reset button; there is no universal Fios extender reset duration.

7. Get help if the connection still drops
Verizon’s My Verizon Wi-Fi Analyzer and Wi-Fi Health Check can help identify weak coverage or performance concerns. Whole-Home Wi-Fi customers can access a Health Check through My Verizon or customer service; equipment eligibility, charges, ownership, and return obligations depend on the service terms. If the router has internet, the extender is correctly placed and connected, and compatible devices still lose their link, contact Verizon support with the router and extender model numbers and the status-light behavior.
