Start at the TV’s lower-right edge, then check the bottom center and the area behind the Samsung logo. Samsung identifies these as common receiver locations, but placement varies by model, so none is guaranteed. Clear the area and test the remote before assuming the sensor is faulty.
Where to look on a Samsung TV
Samsung Support US says the remote-control sensor is on the lower-right side of most Samsung TVs. It may instead be directly in the bottom center. The receiver can be small and easy to overlook among the bezel, status light, or physical controls.
Check the lower-right edge
Stand where you can see the TV’s bottom bezel and inspect its lower-right edge first. This is Samsung’s primary general location guidance, not a model-by-model guarantee. Samsung Support US: locating the remote-control sensor
Check the bottom center and logo area
If there is no obvious receiver at the right edge, inspect the bottom center, including the area behind the Samsung logo. On some TVs, the receiver is grouped with an indicator light or physical controls, so look closely rather than expecting a separate, prominent window.

Clear the receiver area and test the remote
- Remove obstructions. Clear objects along the TV’s lower edge, such as a soundbar, decorations, or plastic film. Samsung notes that objects between a conventional infrared remote and the receiver can interfere with operation. Samsung Philippines: troubleshooting a Smart Remote
- Aim directly at the likely receiver. Point a standard IR remote at the lower-right edge; if that does not work, try the bottom center or logo area, then press Power. Conventional IR remotes need a direct line of sight.
- Check whether the remote emits infrared. Samsung recommends using a digital camera to test a remote’s IR output. Point the remote at the camera and press a button; a visible flash on the camera display supports that the remote is transmitting IR. This does not show that the TV’s receiver is clear or working. Check whether the remote uses Bluetooth
Not every Samsung remote-control problem is an infrared problem. Samsung describes Smart Remotes that use Bluetooth and may need to be paired with the TV. With such a remote, a lack of line of sight or a camera test that finds no IR flash does not necessarily explain why controls are not working. When the common locations do not help
Samsung’s general advice does not establish one sensor position for every model, market, or year. If you cannot identify the receiver at the common locations, find the TV’s model number and look up its model-specific manual or Samsung support page.
