For an eligible US user who wants a no-charge personal number, Google Voice is the cost-first option. For a paid number you can switch or delete, consider Burner; Hushed is another paid app-based line. For several separate contact identities and setup that does not require a personal phone number or email, consider MySudo. None of these should be treated as an anonymous number, and virtual numbers may not work for verification codes.
First, identify which Pinger product you mean
Pinger’s products do different jobs, so “alternative to Pinger” can mean replacing a free calling-and-texting app, getting a second line for work or privacy, or setting up a business contact channel.
| Pinger product | What Pinger says it is for |
|---|---|
| TextFree | Free texting and calling with a free number. |
| Sideline | A second number for privacy, work, or personal use. |
| Index | A dedicated business line with customer-management tools. |
Pinger also offers the Pinger app and a paid Pinger Plus upgrade. Its support comparison lists the free offering at $0 and Pinger Plus at $9.99 per month. Both include a second number and require Wi-Fi or mobile data; the free app has ads, while the table says Plus removes ads and adds verification calls and texts and number reservation. Check Pinger’s current product and terms before comparing: those details may change. Pinger’s product overview and Pinger’s plan comparison describe the products and listed features.

Choose based on your privacy and signup needs
Google Voice: low cost, with Google account and data linkage
Google Voice Basic is the clearest fit if you are in the US, have a personal Gmail account, and want to avoid a subscription. Google says it saves and processes call, text, and voicemail information. A second number can add separation between public and personal contact, but it does not make the communication anonymous or remove the service’s data practices. See Google’s setup and plan details and Google’s Voice privacy information.
Burner: an ongoing or disposable line you can rotate
Burner is a stronger match if you value the ability to switch or delete a number rather than keep one number indefinitely. Its Standard plan includes one private number and unlimited texts and calls, according to the pricing page. The displayed US web prices are $7.99 for one month or $47.99 for 12 months, with the latter billed annually; subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled, and cancellation goes through the purchase platform. Confirm the price and cancellation route for the platform you use on Burner’s pricing page.

Hushed: paid lines, with price tied to line count and storefront
Hushed may suit someone who wants more than one app-based line. The reviewed US Apple App Store listing showed unlimited talk and text in the US and Canada for its one-line and three-line subscriptions, and listed the three-line option at $18.99 monthly or $180.99 yearly. Those amounts are the displayed prices for that storefront and region, not a direct like-for-like price against a single-number plan; Hushed says prices display in local App Store currency. Check the current offer in your storefront: Hushed’s US App Store listing.
MySudo: separate identities, not a promise of anonymity
MySudo is designed around multiple “Sudos,” each with its own phone number, handle, and email. The company says you can begin without a personal phone number or email, which can reduce the personal contact details needed at setup. That is not the same as guaranteed anonymity: UK phone-number acquisition requires accurate, up-to-date legal identity information. MySudo says, “Share your Sudo Handle to make voice calls, video calls, and send messages without revealing your phone number.” Read its product FAQ for the company’s explanation of Sudos and availability.

Check number acceptance before relying on verification codes
Virtual numbers can be detected or blocked by banks, government portals, and apps, and acceptance varies by the service sending the code. Do not assume that any of these numbers will work for account recovery or identity verification. If a particular service requires a number it accepts, check that service’s rules first. The vendor-authored second-number comparison warns about this limitation and identifies a local carrier SIM as the more reliable category for that use. A SIM is not a universal guarantee either; confirm local coverage, device compatibility, activation requirements, and the receiving service’s rules.

Make the choice by country, cost, and how long you need the number
- Need a no-charge personal number in the US: Google Voice Basic is the best fit among these options if you accept its Google account linkage and stated data processing.
- Need a line you can dispose of or replace: Burner explicitly promotes switching or deleting its number.
- Need multiple identities or less personal contact information at signup: MySudo’s separate-Sudo approach may fit, subject to local number availability and its UK identity requirement.
- Need multiple paid lines: Compare Hushed’s line count and your local storefront price with the actual number of lines you need.
- Need codes from a bank, government portal, or app: Verify acceptance with that recipient before choosing a virtual number; consider a carrier SIM if it requires one.
- Already use Pinger: Confirm whether you mean TextFree, Sideline, Index, or the Pinger app, then compare against that product’s actual use rather than assuming every Pinger product is a consumer privacy line.
