Fortnite Sidekicks are cosmetic companions that follow and react to the world; they do not scout for enemies or items. You can customize a Sidekick’s name and accessories, but its selected physical traits are permanent. Epic’s announcement links to the official appearance-customization instructions, but the exact Locker steps are not established here, so check Epic Player Support for the current procedure rather than relying on guessed menu labels or button presses.
What Sidekicks do in Fortnite
Sidekicks are customizable companions that join players in Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, developer-made experiences, and more. They react to their surroundings, but their role is cosmetic and companion-focused—not a gameplay advantage. Epic’s Sidekick announcement describes their introduction and customization.

The Fortnite Item Shop listing says Sidekicks do not detect enemies or items. In Battle Royale, you see only the Sidekicks belonging to your team; visibility works differently in other experiences. A Sidekick may therefore be absent or less visible depending on the mode.
How do I equip a Sidekick in Fortnite?
Use the Fortnite Locker’s Sidekick customization flow to select an owned companion, but consult Epic’s current Sidekick appearance support instructions for the exact steps. The available official information establishes that appearance customization is supported, but does not specify current Locker labels, button prompts, or platform-specific navigation. Those details can change, so don’t rely on unverified directions.

How do I customize my Fortnite Sidekick?
Choose physical traits carefully
Epic says the physical traits selected for a Sidekick are permanent. Treat that choice as a one-time appearance decision for that owned customization, rather than assuming you can later edit its underlying traits.
Change its name and accessories
You can change a Sidekick’s name and accessories. Hats and hoodies are examples of accessories that can be earned with Sidekick Points by spending time together. Epic’s support results also say you may buy the same Sidekick more than once and assign different appearances, but each owned customization must be unique: duplicate appearances are not allowed.

Where can I use a Sidekick, and why can’t I see it?
Epic introduced Sidekicks for Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, developer-made experiences, and more, but visibility is not identical across modes. Battle Royale displays only your team’s Sidekicks; elsewhere it varies by experience. If your Sidekick is not visible, first consider the experience’s visibility rules rather than expecting it to appear to every player.
How to get a Sidekick
Sidekicks are digital cosmetics offered through Fortnite’s in-game Item Shop, with purchases made using V-Bucks. Shop stock, prices, and sale periods change; consult the current in-game Shop listing instead of treating an earlier announcement as proof that an item is still available.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Epic’s Oct. 30, 2025 announcement gave launch-specific dates: Peels was planned for the Battle Pass on Nov. 1, Bonesy, Spike, and Lil’ Raptor for the Shop on Nov. 7, and Bonesy Back Bling owners were to receive Bonesy Sidekick. Those dates describe the original rollout, not current availability.

Owning a Sidekick cosmetic and adding a Sidekick NPC to a UEFN island are separate workflows. Epic’s June 5, 2026 UEFN announcement says creators can access Sidekicks through the NPC Spawner and control them with standard NPC tools and Verse APIs. A Sidekick-specific reaction system supports behaviors such as following, fetching, fleeing, attacking, and reacting. Licensed Sidekicks are excluded from NPC use.

Depending on the Sidekick, creators can configure four to eight preset customization channels. Examples include body shape, color and patterns, eye style, distinguishing features, and outfit. Creators can also set NPC size, health and shield values, and whether regular weapons can damage it. These options configure an existing Sidekick; they do not let creators author a wholly new Sidekick from scratch. Cosmetic Sync can make a configured NPC appear as the joining player’s equipped Sidekick.
The UEFN announcement also lists sleep, eat, react, and action presets, along with happy, dance, emote, angry, worried, and attack reaction states. It described Control Rig support as planned for a later release, so check current UEFN documentation before assuming that feature is available.
