Yes. The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 has no built-in storage for captured footage, so you need a microSD card to record. For most buyers, the Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 256GB is a sensible starting choice: DJI lists that exact model and capacity as recommended. Choose more capacity if you expect to record for longer between transfers.

Does the Osmo Pocket 3 need a microSD card?

Yes. DJI says the Osmo Pocket 3 has no built-in storage and requires a microSD card to store captured footage. Its beginner guide recommends a card rated at least UHS-I Speed Grade 3 (U3) for optimal transfer speed: DJI Osmo Pocket 3 FAQ.

Which microSD card should you buy?

DJI lists the following models and capacities as recommended. A 256GB card is a practical default, not an official DJI preference; the best capacity depends on how much you record before transferring files.

Choice DJI-listed card When it may suit you
Practical default Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 256GB A balanced starting point for typical use.
More storage Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 512GB or Lexar SILVER PLUS 1TB Consider these if you record for longer between transfers or want fewer card changes.
Smaller capacity SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB V30 A1 UHS-I Speed Grade 3 DJI lists it, but its smaller capacity means transferring footage or changing cards more often for a given amount of recording.

DJI’s current support information lists microSD cards up to 1TB and names recommended models at several capacities: DJI Osmo Pocket 3 specifications and DJI Store FAQ and product page. Check the exact model and capacity against DJI’s list when buying. DJI’s guidance establishes a minimum speed rating; it does not establish that a rating above that minimum will improve camera performance.

Is 256GB enough for the Osmo Pocket 3?

It depends on your recording settings and how often you transfer files. DJI specifies a maximum video bitrate of 130 Mbps in its Osmo Pocket 3 User Manual v1.0, dated October 2023. At that maximum, the bitrate converts to approximately 58.5GB per hour, before file-system overhead and variation by recording mode. This is a calculation from DJI’s bitrate figure, not a DJI recording-time estimate; actual file sizes depend on settings and footage: DJI Osmo Pocket 3 User Manual v1.0.

DJI does not publish one universal ideal capacity or a guaranteed recording-duration table for each card size. Use 256GB as a reasonable middle-ground choice if it fits your habits; opt for 512GB or 1TB if you prefer less frequent transfers and your recording plans call for more room.
