The Steam Deck can run Nintendo Switch games through third-party emulator software on SteamOS. EmuDeck documents a setup path using Ryujinx, but that establishes only that the emulator can be configured—not that a particular game will start or run smoothly. Compatibility and performance depend on the title and setup.
What Switch emulation on Steam Deck involves
EmuDeck’s Ryujinx on SteamOS guide describes configuring the emulator and adding game shortcuts to Steam. It lists game files, keys, and firmware among the inputs the setup expects. It also covers using Steam ROM Manager to add entries to the Steam library, so games can be launched from either desktop mode or Steam’s game mode.
That documentation explains a setup route; it is not a current compatibility list, performance benchmark, or guarantee of support from Valve. Emulator projects and their available builds can change, so check the project’s current documentation before following setup steps. Do not assume that every build or fork is official or supported by Valve.
Will a specific Switch game work well?
There are three separate questions: whether the emulator can be configured, whether a particular game boots, and whether it performs acceptably with your preferred settings. The setup guide addresses the first. It does not establish current answers for individual titles or frame rates, so a general claim that popular games work—or work at a particular speed—would be unjustified.

Valve’s Steam Deck Verified program categorizes games reviewed for the Steam catalog. Its labels do not certify Nintendo Switch games running through a third-party emulator. Look for recent, title-specific compatibility information if you need to assess a particular game, and distinguish a report that a game boots from evidence that it runs reliably and comfortably.

Game files and legal considerations
The setup guide lists game files, keys, and firmware as emulator inputs, but it does not determine whether obtaining or creating those files is lawful. Rules vary by jurisdiction and by the circumstances of how files are acquired. Check the laws that apply where you live; do not assume that emulation or every method of obtaining required files is automatically legal or illegal.

Storage and offline use
A microSD card is an optional way to add storage, not a way to improve emulator speed or compatibility. Valve says the Steam Deck supports booting from microSD and can format cards for use. Its FAQ also says installed games can generally be played offline unless a particular game requires an internet connection; that is general device guidance, not a promise that an emulator or every emulated game will work offline.
