The Lenovo IdeaCentre Y710 Cube delivered strong gaming performance for its time, especially in GTX 1070 configurations at 1080p, while keeping components accessible in a compact, carryable case. It is now a withdrawn Windows 10-era system, though, and the name covers substantially different configurations. For a used buyer, the exact GPU, condition and price matter more than the Y710 Cube label.
What the Y710 Cube is—and which configurations matter
Lenovo introduced the IdeaCentre Y710 Cube in 2016 as a compact gaming desktop built around 6th-generation Intel Core processors. Lenovo’s product specification reference now marks the family as withdrawn. It was not one fixed configuration: documented options included Core i5-6400 and Core i7-6700 processors paired with graphics cards ranging from Radeon RX 460 and RX 480 to Nvidia GTX 1060, GTX 1070 and GTX 1080. Lenovo lists support for up to 32GB of DDR4 memory. Lenovo PSREF
That spread changes what a review result means for a particular used machine. A GTX 1070 benchmark cannot be assumed to describe an RX 460 or GTX 1060 model; check the actual GPU and processor before comparing performance or price.
How well does it game?
GTX 1070: strong period 1080p performance
Tom’s Guide tested a Y710 Cube with a Core i7-6700, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 1070. In Rise of the Tomb Raider at 1080p with maximum settings, that review unit averaged 55.4 fps. This is evidence of capable 1080p gaming for the period, not a guarantee for every game or every Y710 configuration. Tom’s Guide’s review

4K: expect to lower settings
The same GTX 1070 review unit recorded 15.7 fps in that game at 4K with maximum settings. That result is not a playable 4K experience at those settings; lowering graphics options or resolution would be necessary for smoother play.
VR: capable by the period’s test, not a modern guarantee
Tom’s Guide’s GTX 1070 system scored 10.8 in the SteamVR Performance Test and 3,240 in 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra. Those 2017 results support the conclusion that this configuration was VR-capable by contemporary standards. They do not establish compatibility or smooth performance with every current headset or VR title.

Is the Cube actually compact and portable?
Lenovo lists the chassis at 393.3 x 252.3 x 314.5mm (15.48 x 9.93 x 12.38 inches), with a starting weight of 7.4kg (16.3lb). It has a carry handle, making it easier to move to a LAN event than a conventional tower, but that weight is substantial for a small-form-factor desktop. Lenovo’s Y710 Cube datasheet
Can you upgrade or service it?
Access is more straightforward than the Cube’s size might suggest. Tom’s Guide reported that removing four rear screws allows the side panels to slide off, exposing the graphics card, memory slots and hard-drive bays. TechRadar also described side access through a window secured by two screws. Tom’s Guide and TechRadar

That access helps with inspection, cleaning and component service, but it does not mean every part can be replaced with any standard desktop component. Upgrade options depend on the installed graphics card, power supply and the specific Lenovo chassis layout. Before buying a replacement GPU or other part, identify the machine’s exact configuration and check fit, power and connector requirements.
Ports, networking and power draw
Lenovo lists front USB 3.0 and rear USB, Ethernet, display and audio connections. The discrete graphics card provides its own video outputs, including HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort; the available ports can vary with the installed card. The platform uses Killer wired and wireless networking. Lenovo’s datasheet and HotHardware’s review

- Quick and Straightforward Upgrade: Memory is normally simple to install and requires no software installation; shut down and disconnect the machine before fitting and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Power consumption also varies by configuration and workload. Tom’s Hardware France measured more than 250W during 3DMark on a GTX 1080 review model and described idle consumption as average relative to its comparison systems. That is a measurement of that review unit under that test, not a consumption figure for every Y710 Cube. Tom’s Hardware France

The Y710 Cube is discontinued, so historic launch prices are not a reliable way to judge a current listing. Microsoft’s Windows Experience Blog announced a GTX 1070 version starting at $1,299.99, available from October 2016; later review coverage discussed higher-end configurations around $2,199. Both figures are historical launch-era context, not current resale valuations. Microsoft’s Windows Experience Blog announcement

Ask the seller for the exact model or configuration and verify these details before deciding whether the asking price makes sense:
- Graphics card and processor: Confirm the installed GPU and CPU rather than relying on the listing title.
- Memory and storage: Check the RAM amount and whether the system has an SSD, hard drive, or both.
- Power supply and upgrades: Verify the power supply and any replaced components, especially if the graphics card has been changed.
- Condition and included items: Ask about faults, repairs, missing accessories and whether the system can be demonstrated working.
- Outputs and intended use: Confirm the graphics card’s actual ports and match them to your monitor or headset.
- Total used-market price: Compare the complete configuration and condition with other systems available to you; the old launch price does not establish today’s value.
Verdict
The Y710 Cube was a capable gaming desktop in its time, with the reviewed GTX 1070 version delivering strong 1080p results and contemporary VR performance. Its accessible side panels and carry handle are practical advantages, but its 7.4kg starting weight is not light, and the GTX 1070 benchmark fell well short of smooth 4K gaming at maximum settings. Today, it is best judged as a specific used PC—not as a single product with performance guaranteed by its name.
