The TerraMaster F2-425 Plus is worth considering if you want a compact NAS that combines two SATA drive bays with three NVMe slots and can make practical use of multi-gigabit networking. Its dual 5GbE ports delivered strong results in IT Pro’s lab, but those figures depended on specific SSDs, a 10GbE test network and an MPIO iSCSI setup—not a typical home network. At the dated UK review price of £399 including VAT in February 2026, its appeal is strongest for home labs, creators and small offices that will use its extra storage and networking flexibility.

What the F2-425 Plus offers

Launched on October 21, 2025, the F2-425 Plus is a desktop NAS built around an Intel N150 quad-core processor, 8GB of DDR5 memory and two 5GbE network ports. It has two SATA bays for 3.5-inch hard drives or 2.5-inch SSDs, plus three internal M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 x1 NVMe slots. TerraMaster specifies a maximum of 60TB raw capacity across the SATA bays, based on two 30TB drives; usable capacity depends on the drives and RAID configuration.

Specification F2-425 Plus
Processor Intel N150 quad-core; up to 3.6GHz burst frequency (TerraMaster, 2025)
Memory 8GB DDR5 installed; up to 32GB supported (TerraMaster, 2025; IT Pro, 2026)
Drive expansion Two SATA LFF/SFF bays and three M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 x1 NVMe slots
Networking Two 5GbE ports
Other connections HDMI 2.0, USB-C and three USB-A ports
Power supply 48W external adapter

TerraMaster’s stated 60TB is raw SATA capacity, not a promise of that much space for files. RAID and other storage choices affect usable capacity. The three NVMe slots add room for SSD-based storage or acceleration alongside the SATA drives, but the source material does not establish a single required or best configuration for those drives.

How fast is it over 5GbE?

In IT Pro’s 2026 lab review, an SSD NAS share reached sequential reads of 4.6Gbit/s and writes of 3.9Gbit/s on a 10GbE lab network. A separate dual-5GbE MPIO iSCSI test reached 7Gbit/s reads and 5.1Gbit/s writes. These are results from specific storage, host, switch, network and protocol combinations—not guaranteed speeds for a home setup. The iSCSI result in particular comes from a multi-path configuration and should not be treated as the expected speed of one ordinary client copying files to a share.

What you need to benefit from the network ports

  • A client device and network path capable of multi-gigabit speeds; a 1GbE link limits transfers well below the NAS ports’ 5GbE link rate.
  • A suitable multi-gigabit switch or direct network arrangement. The switch, client interfaces and cabling all contribute to the end-to-end result.
  • For an MPIO iSCSI setup like IT Pro’s test, compatible host and network configuration in addition to the NAS. The review’s result does not establish the performance of every MPIO setup.

TerraMaster advertises sequential write speeds up to 1020MB/s. That is the manufacturer’s product-page claim, not the same measurement as IT Pro’s protocol-specific lab results; actual throughput depends on the complete storage and network configuration.

Can you use NVMe SSDs and hard drives together?

Yes. The design combines two SATA bays with three internal M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 x1 NVMe slots, so SATA drives and NVMe SSDs can be installed in the same appliance. IT Pro tested with two Kingston M.2 NVMe SSDs and two 4TB Seagate IronWolf NAS hard drives, measuring the SSD NAS share separately from the dual-5GbE MPIO iSCSI target.

Choosing drives

  • For bulk storage: the SATA bays accept 3.5-inch hard drives or 2.5-inch SSDs. IT Pro found the tool-free SATA carriers suitable for either size.
  • For NVMe: the slots take M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 x1 drives. The N150 exposes PCIe Gen3 channels, so buying a more expensive Gen4 drive is unnecessary for the slot’s supported generation.
  • For total capacity: TerraMaster lists up to 60TB raw across the two SATA bays, assuming two 30TB drives. RAID configuration changes the space available for data.

The review describes the drives it used for testing; it does not establish retailer bundle contents. Check the specific listing to see whether drives are included.

Memory, build and day-to-day fit

The system ships with 8GB DDR5 and supports up to 32GB, according to TerraMaster and IT Pro. There is one SO-DIMM slot, so an upgrade replaces the installed module rather than adding a second one. This is less convenient than a two-slot design for incremental upgrades.

SPC security module and CloudSync (supporting Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox) guarantee worry-free data protection. Additionally, TerraSync enables two-way sync between the F2-425 and PCs/Macs

Reviewer Dave Mitchell described the 3mm aluminium shell as solid and the single 8cm fan as very quiet. The NAS also has HDMI 2.0 and USB-C alongside three USB-A ports. These physical features add flexibility, though the supplied review does not quantify power consumption or noise levels.

What software and data-protection tools does it have?

IT Pro reviewed TOS 6 and documented Rsync, snapshots for NAS shares and iSCSI LUNs, TerraMaster Folder Mirror, CloudSync with support for fifteen cloud providers, and centralized backup for Windows, VMware and Hyper-V. It also lists HyperLock-WORM retention modes. These features give the appliance options for replication, recovery and retention, but they do not replace a separate backup strategy: snapshots and mirrored folders can still be affected by problems that reach the NAS or its storage.

At the time of the February 2026 review, TOS 7 was a public beta, not the reviewed stable software. IT Pro previewed 82 apps in its beta App Center, compared with 57 downloadable apps in the TOS 6 App Center it reviewed. TOS 7’s previewed changes included redesigned management screens, more granular ACLs, Storage Manager and Device Monitoring apps, and an Online Office viewer. Treat those beta features and app counts as time-specific rather than a statement of current release availability.

On those cited specifications, TerraMaster offers more installed memory, more M.2 slots and faster network ports. That is not a complete comparison of the systems: the reviewed material does not establish equivalent software capabilities, warranties, drive bundle contents, noise, power use or total system cost. If operating-system maturity matters more than hardware flexibility, weigh the software ecosystem separately rather than assuming port count settles the choice.

Who should buy the F2-425 Plus?

  • Good fit: a home lab, creator workstation or small office that wants HDD capacity and NVMe options in one compact chassis and can use multi-gigabit networking.
  • Less compelling: a buyer whose network is limited to 1GbE and who would not use the extra port speed, or someone who specifically wants two replaceable memory modules.
  • Compare carefully: anyone prioritizing the most mature NAS operating-system ecosystem, or calculating total cost. Drives and a suitable multi-gigabit switch may be needed to make the hardware’s capacity and networking useful; confirm what is included with the particular listing.
