Some Samsung air conditioners can be started from a manual-control button on the indoor unit, but the button’s location and operation depend on the model. On four models covered by a Samsung manual—AR09TXHQASINEU, AR09TXHQBWKNEU, AR12TXHQASINEU and AR12TXHQBWKNEU—the button cycles through Forced Auto, Forced Cooling and off. Check your exact model’s manual before opening the unit or trying this sequence.
Check whether your model has manual control

Find the full model code on the indoor unit’s label or in your existing product documents.

Locate the Samsung manual for that exact model and look for “Manual Operation,” “Manual Control” or similar wording. Samsung says control-panel designs vary by model, so the location and sequence described for one unit may not apply to another. See Samsung support and consult the model’s manual.

If the manual does not clearly identify the button or how to access it, do not pry at the casing or reach inside the unit. Use the manual’s support guidance instead.

Use the manual button on the models documented by Samsung
The steps below are for AR09TXHQASINEU, AR09TXHQBWKNEU, AR12TXHQASINEU and AR12TXHQBWKNEU only. Samsung describes manual operation as intended for testing and emergencies, and says the unit must be off before using it.

Make sure the air conditioner is off.

Open the indoor unit’s front panel and locate the Manual Control button on the right-hand side.

Close the front panel after operating the button.
This button does not provide the remote’s full range of controls, such as selecting a temperature, fan speed or timer setting. Samsung’s manual puts it plainly: “The manual button is intended for testing purposes and emergency operation only. Please do not use this function unless the remote control is lost and it is absolutely necessary.”

Can you control the air conditioner with your phone?
Possibly, through SmartThings, if your exact air-conditioner model supports it and it is connected to Wi-Fi or a compatible Wi-Fi adapter. Samsung’s setup instructions vary by product, software version, network environment and country; they are not a guaranteed way to recover control after losing a remote.
Some setup instructions require an action on the remote—for example, Samsung’s cited India instructions call for holding the remote’s Timer button during pairing. If your unit is already paired, the app may be usable. If it is not paired and you have no remote, check the instructions for your model and region or contact Samsung support. Restore normal controls with a compatible remote
If you need normal temperature, fan, timer and mode settings, get a replacement remote confirmed for your full air-conditioner model code. Samsung says remote designs differ by model and directs owners to the product manual; do not assume a remote will work just because it is labelled for Samsung. Its support page notes: “The actual design of the remote controller may differ based on the model you have.”
Verify the full model code against the replacement’s compatibility details before buying. Samsung’s cited support instructions also specify two 1.5 V AAA batteries for the remote; that is relevant if you find the original and it is unresponsive, rather than missing. Check Samsung’s remote-control guidance.
