Their appearance and availability differ by model and market, so use this guide to narrow down an unfamiliar icon and check the manual for your exact AC model to confirm it.
Start with the operating mode
The mode symbol tells you what the air conditioner is set to do. Samsung’s icon guide and remote-control guide describe these common choices, though not every model supports every mode.
| Mode | What it does | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Auto | The AC chooses heating or cooling behavior and adjusts fan operation to move toward the target temperature. | Some connected models offer AI Auto, which Samsung Australia says depends on Wi-Fi and learned usage patterns. Samsung Australia |
| Cool | Cools the room. | Available on cooling-capable models. Samsung Colombia |
| Dry | Removes moisture from the air; useful in humid or rainy conditions. | Operation and fan options depend on the model. Samsung Colombia |
| Fan | Circulates air without heating or cooling. | Do not expect this mode to change room temperature. Samsung Australia |
| Heat | Warms the room. | Only models with heating support provide this mode; cooling-only units do not. Samsung Australia |
Read fan speed and airflow separately
Fan-speed bars or levels
Bars or stepped levels indicate how strongly the fan is set to run. Depending on the model and mode, choices may include Auto, low, medium, high, or a maximum/Turbo setting. This is about fan intensity, not where the air is directed.
Swing arrows or vane indicators
Arrows or a swing symbol show that the air vanes are moving automatically to direct airflow. Samsung’s icon guide distinguishes vertical and horizontal sweep; the available directions depend on the unit. Samsung Colombia’s icon glossary

- No battery included
- Display in Celsius Only and it can also work for Fahrenheit air conditioner
Identify timers, batteries, and connection indicators
- Clock or timer: indicates a scheduled switch-on or switch-off. On the Australian remote guide’s described models, timed on/off durations are set with Timer and confirmed with SET; the documented range is 0.5 to 24 hours, a model- and market-specific detail. Samsung Australia
- Battery outline: Samsung’s icon glossary says this means the remote batteries need replacing. Samsung Colombia
- Signal or transmission mark: may show that a command is being sent. In one interface described by Samsung’s glossary, a similar mark relates to a phone Wi-Fi connection in progress. Check your remote’s manual illustration rather than assuming every signal-like symbol means the same thing. Samsung Colombia Samsung Australia
Understand optional comfort and energy functions
These symbols appear only on supported models. Some functions also restrict which other settings can run at the same time.
| Symbol or label | Typical meaning | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Sleep / Good Sleep | Activates a programmed temperature sequence intended for sleeping comfort. | Samsung says Good Sleep does not detect sleep stages in real time; it adjusts indoor temperature according to a programmed sequence. Details vary by model. Samsung Australia |
| Eco / Single User / Smart Saver | An energy-oriented feature that may limit or adjust operation. | Samsung Colombia describes a 24–30 °C temperature range for its Single User function; that range applies to that named function and market, not to every Eco mode. Samsung Colombia |
| Fast / Turbo | Speeds up cooling or heating, depending on the model and mode. | Samsung Colombia says its Turbo indicator is available in Cool and runs for 30 minutes. Do not treat that duration as universal. Samsung Colombia |
| Quiet | Selects a noise-reduction function. | Availability and effect vary by model. Samsung Australia |
| Wind-Free | Activates a supported airflow mode that disperses air through fine holes in the panel rather than directing it straight through the vanes. | Supported modes and operation vary by model. Samsung Australia |
When functions cancel one another
On the models covered by Samsung Australia’s remote guide, Fast or Quiet cancels Wind-Free, Eco, and Good Sleep; Eco also cancels those functions and Fast/Quiet. Combinations can differ across models, so check the guide for your unit if a function turns off when you select another. Samsung Australia

Why an icon may not match a generic symbol list
Samsung warns that remote displays and features vary by product model, and controls may also differ by market. Its Colombia glossary applies to products purchased in Colombia, while its Australian remote guide covers Australian products. A symbol list is therefore a starting point, not a universal key.
For an unfamiliar icon, locate the AC model number and open the manual for that exact unit. Manuals for wired or system controllers may include filter, lock, or inspection indicators that are not standard handheld-remote symbols. Do not apply those meanings to a different remote without confirming the illustration in its manual. Samsung Australia
