You can add your own signature to a PDF using OneDrive’s markup tools in its iOS or Android app. To send a OneDrive PDF to someone else for signing, use a separate e-signature workflow, such as Adobe Acrobat for SharePoint and OneDrive or Teams Approvals. The right path depends on whether you are signing the document yourself or collecting another person’s signature.
Choose the right OneDrive signature workflow

Add your own signature with OneDrive mobile
OneDrive documents signature placement through PDF markup in its mobile apps. The available steps differ slightly between iOS and Android.
iPhone or iPad
- Open the PDF in the OneDrive app.
- Tap Text to add text, or expand More and choose Signature.
- Create or select a signature and tap Done.
- Position and resize the signature box on the PDF.
- To change or remove markup later, open Annotation, select the markup, and use the available commands.

Android
- Open the PDF in OneDrive for Android and tap Markup.
- Tap and hold the Text icon, then choose Signature from the menu.
- Position the signature on the document. Select existing markup to change or delete it.

Request signatures on a PDF stored in OneDrive
To ask another person to sign, open the document through a supported e-signature service. Adobe documents a route that opens a PDF stored in OneDrive in Acrobat for SharePoint and OneDrive, as well as a OneDrive file source inside Acrobat Sign. The exact options depend on your organization’s setup and service level.
Open the OneDrive PDF in Acrobat
- In OneDrive, right-click the PDF and choose Open > Open in browser.
- When the file opens in Acrobat, choose Send for signature.
- Add the recipients’ email addresses, then add or verify signature fields and any other fields the document needs.
- Set the signing order or agreement options if those choices are available, then preview the document and send the request.
- Track the request in the signing service.
Adobe says changes to online PDFs are saved automatically. If Open in Adobe Acrobat is missing, Adobe advises contacting your organization’s administrator about provisioning SharePoint and OneDrive. Adobe’s general web workflow also describes adding recipients, optional signing order and settings, placing fields in Preview & add fields, and sending.

Select a OneDrive file from Acrobat Sign
Acrobat Sign can use OneDrive as a file source while you create an agreement. During the send process, choose OneDrive from the file-selection menu. On first use, authenticate with Microsoft and authorize access, then select the file or files; the selected documents are uploaded to the Acrobat Sign agreement.
Adobe documents this OneDrive upload feature for Acrobat Sign business and enterprise service levels. An Acrobat Sign administrator must expose and enable the integration at the account or group level; it can also be disabled there. OneDrive is a separate Microsoft service, and its licensing is not included with Acrobat Sign. Check your organization’s tenant and plan before relying on this file-selection path. Send an e-signature request through Teams Approvals
Teams Approvals is another option if your organization has an available provider such as Adobe Sign or DocuSign. It is a Teams workflow, not the OneDrive mobile PDF markup feature.
- Open Approvals in Teams and start an e-signature request.
- Select an available provider and attach the document.
- Add recipients and assign their roles.
- Require recipients to complete the request in order if needed, then submit and track it through the workflow.
Microsoft notes that Adobe Sign and DocuSign Approvals are not available in Government Community Cloud. For setup details, see Microsoft’s Teams Approvals instructions.

Request Files is for uploads, not signatures
OneDrive’s Request Files feature asks people to upload files to a folder. People with the link can upload files but cannot see or edit the folder contents. It does not send a document to someone for signing.
An administrator must enable Request Files. Microsoft says it is unavailable for OneDrive for home, Office 365 Germany, and Office 365 operated by 21Vianet. See Microsoft’s Request Files instructions.

Which route should you use?
- Signing the PDF yourself on a phone or tablet: Use OneDrive markup in the iOS or Android app.
- Collecting signatures on a OneDrive PDF: Use the documented Acrobat route or Acrobat Sign integration, subject to your organization’s access and service-level requirements.
- Managing the request in Teams: Use Teams Approvals with a provider available to your organization.
- Collecting files in a OneDrive folder: Use Request Files, but not as a substitute for an e-signature request.
