Crystal Lake is an eight-episode prequel to Friday the 13th, centered on Pam Voorhees and the town before the events of the 1980 film. It is scheduled to premiere on Peacock in the United States on October 15, 2026, and on Sky and NOW in the United Kingdom and Ireland on October 19.
What is Crystal Lake about?
The official premise begins almost a year after young Jason Voorhees drowned in the town lake. His mother, Pam, is grieving when two strangers arrive at her home asking about her past. Their questions set off events that leave people in town questioning who Pam is. That is the announced setup, not a full account of the plot or the strangers’ identities.

The series expands the story around Pam and the town rather than simply retelling the original film’s camp-counselor story. Peacock’s trailer coverage also describes Pam working as a camp cook and the community’s unease; those details come from promotional material, not a review of the finished series.
Is Crystal Lake a prequel to Friday the 13th?
Yes. Peacock describes the series as taking place before the original 1980 horror film. Brad Caleb Kane, the series’ creator and showrunner, has said it exists within the franchise’s canon and DNA. That broad statement does not establish specific continuity details beyond the announced prequel premise.

Linda Cardellini stars as Pam, the grieving mother at the center of the series’ premise.
Other announced cast
Peacock names William Catlett as Levon, Gwendolyn Sundstrom as Grace, Cameron Scoggins as Dorf and Devin Kessler as Brianna. Its cast guide lists Callum Vinson among the recurring cast and identifies him as young Jason. A separate Peacock trailer article identifies Scoggins as young Jason while also listing him as Dorf. The official Peacock materials therefore conflict on the young Jason credit; consult updated official credits for clarification.
Who is making the series?
Current A24 and Sky listings credit Brad Caleb Kane as creator. Sky identifies him as creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer. In a July 14, 2026 Sky Group announcement, Kane said the show was made by people who grew up with the franchise and wanted to recreate the feeling of watching its kills with a crowd for at-home audiences. He also described it as made with “love and respect” for the fans and franchise.
Bryan Fuller was named creator and showrunner in Peacock’s November 2022 announcement. That is an earlier development credit; current official listings name Kane as the creative lead.
Should you watch the original Friday the 13th first?
The original film is optional context, not an established prerequisite. The series’ announced premise introduces Jason’s drowning and Pam’s story before the 1980 film, so newcomers can start with the prequel. Watching the original first may help if you want a refresher on the franchise’s starting point.
