How to clean an inflatable paddle board after paddling
- Rinse it with fresh water. Wash off salt, sand, grit, mud, and dirt, paying particular attention to areas where debris collects. Aquaplanet’s support guidance recommends rinsing after every use, and BOTE likewise advises rinsing its products with fresh water at the end of a day on the water: Aquaplanet’s care guidance and BOTE’s cleaning advice.
- Use mild soap only for dirt that needs more than a rinse. Clean gently with soap and water and a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners. Surface and deck-pad materials vary, so check your model’s manual before using a specialty product. NSP’s care guidance, for example, recommends mild soap and water: NSP’s inflatable SUP care instructions.
- Rinse away soap residue, then dry every surface completely. Pay attention to the deck pad, seams, valve area, and other places where moisture can linger. Let the board air-dry or use a clean, soft towel to help; there is no universal drying time, so wait until it is fully dry rather than relying on a fixed number of hours.
- Fold or roll it only when it is dry. Packing a damp board can trap moisture. Aquaplanet and NSP both advise thorough drying before storage; see Aquaplanet’s storage guidance and NSP’s care instructions.
Where and how to store your board
Choose a cool, dry, shaded indoor location. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and hot storage areas, since heat and sun can damage an inflatable board. Keep the board clean and dry, whether you store it inflated or deflated; the correct setup depends on the maker’s instructions for your model.
Do not assume the storage bag is a suitable place for long-term storage. Level Six says its board bag is intended for transport rather than extended storage and warns that heat can build up inside: Level Six’s board-care guidance. A bag does not replace drying the board or choosing a cool, shaded location.
Inflated or deflated: follow your board’s instructions
Manufacturers differ on whether a board should be stored inflated or deflated, how much pressure to release, and how to handle heat and sunlight. Do not treat one maker’s PSI advice as a universal target. NSP, for example, advises reducing inflation below 10 psi when its board is exposed to heat or extended direct sunlight. The GILI manual advises releasing some pressure when its board is out of the water and exposed to sun. These are model-specific examples, not general pressure limits. Check your own manual for the applicable maximum pressure and storage directions: NSP’s guidance and GILI’s manuals.

Consult the manual as well for whether to remove the fin, how tightly to roll the board, and whether to leave it inflated between outings. A Home Depot-hosted manual offers storage instructions for its particular product; those instructions should not be assumed to apply to every inflatable SUP: the product manual hosted by The Home Depot.
Check for damage and choose repairs carefully
Inspect the board as you clean it, especially around seams and the valve. A compatible PVC patch kit may be appropriate for a small puncture, but patch materials and repair methods need to suit the board. For seam, valve, or major damage, follow the manufacturer’s repair instructions or contact the maker or a qualified repair shop. NSP recommends professional repair for major damage: NSP’s repair guidance.

Some manufacturers mention UV protectant or specialty deck-pad cleaner, but compatibility is not universal. Verify that any such product is approved for your board’s materials before applying it; shade and careful storage are the broadly applicable ways to limit sun exposure.
