To stop an AI agent or automation app from using permissions you granted it, open Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security and turn off its access in each relevant category. Start with Accessibility and Automation if it can control your Mac or other apps. Then check the categories for screen and audio recording, microphone, input monitoring, files and folders, and Full Disk Access as relevant. These are separate controls, so revoking one does not revoke the others.
Open the privacy controls for your macOS version
- On macOS 13 or later, choose Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security.
- On macOS 12 or earlier, choose Apple menu > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy.
Apple documents these paths in its Change Privacy & Security settings on Mac guide. The exact category names and layout can vary by macOS release.
Revoke the permissions relevant to the app
In Privacy & Security, open each applicable category and switch off the app. The list in one category only shows that category’s grants; an app missing from the list may still have access granted elsewhere.
Accessibility and Automation
Check Accessibility if the agent can interact with or control your Mac through accessibility features. Apple says a third-party app requesting this access must be specifically authorized, and you can later turn the permission on or off. See Allow accessibility apps to access your Mac.

Check Automation separately to revoke the app’s permission to control other apps. Accessibility and Automation are distinct permissions; depending on what the software does, it may have one or both.
Screen, audio, microphone, and input monitoring
Review Screen & System Audio Recording if the app records or captures your display or system audio, and Microphone if it can listen through the Mac’s microphone. Apple provides separate per-app controls for these categories: screen and system audio recording and microphone access.

Also inspect Input Monitoring if you are concerned about the app observing keyboard or mouse activity. It is a separate permission from screen recording and Accessibility.
Files & Folders and Full Disk Access
For access to local documents or app data, review Files & Folders and Full Disk Access. Files & Folders permissions can be switched off by location, while Full Disk Access is broader and covers files including data from other apps and certain administrative settings. What revoking access does—and does not do
Turning off a permission prevents future access governed by that permission. It does not establish whether the app previously transmitted, retained, or copied information. If you are concerned about data already collected, review the app’s privacy policy and any account-level deletion controls. Apple also advises considering third-party terms and privacy practices for apps that access files, screen or audio, microphone, or accessibility features; see Protecting app access to user data.
Restarting or uninstalling may be reasonable for app-specific reasons, but Apple’s cited instructions do not identify either action as necessary to revoke a permission. The controls are changed in Privacy & Security settings.

If you cannot change a permission
If a setting is unavailable on a work- or school-managed Mac, your organization may control it. Apple directs administrators to deployment guidance for managed app access, but the available information does not determine the policy on a particular Mac. Ask your administrator if the control is locked or missing.
