That value identifies the installed patch; the date of the last update is separate update-history information.
Find the installed security patch
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone. On a Galaxy tablet, tap About tablet.
- Tap Software information.
- Read the value beside Android security patch level.
Samsung’s instructions identify this screen as the place to view software details, including the security patch level. Menu names and locations can vary by model, carrier, and software version. Samsung Canada’s software-version and update instructions
Do not mistake other software details for the patch level
Android version, One UI version, build number, and Baseband version are different entries. For the installed security patch, use the specific Android security patch level label.
View the last update separately
To see information about the most recent successful update, open Settings > Software update > Last update. Samsung says this screen can show when the update completed and summarize what it included. The last-update date or time is update history; it is not a substitute for the patch-level value. Samsung Canada’s instructions

Check whether a newer patch is available
Depending on the Galaxy model and software, try one of these routes:
- Settings > Security and privacy > Updates > Security update > Check for updates. Samsung’s Philippines support page documents this route. Samsung Philippines software-update instructions
- Settings > Software update > Download and install. The next button may instead be labeled Check for system updates or Check for software updates, depending on the device. Samsung US software-update instructions
If the phone says it is up to date, that means this check is not currently offering an update. It does not mean every Galaxy model receives patches on the same schedule. Samsung notes that availability can depend on the model, software version, service provider, and carrier release timing; updates may also roll out in stages. Wi-Fi may be required, and some SIM-unlocked phones may need the original carrier’s SIM to receive updates. If you cannot find the setting or an expected update
- Return to Settings > About phone > Software information to check the installed patch value.
- Open Settings > Software update > Last update to inspect the latest successful update and its summary.
- If labels differ, try searching Settings for security patch or Software information. Search results can vary, so this is a navigation aid rather than a guaranteed menu route.
- Check your carrier’s update page for the exact phone model and region if no newer update appears.
- For installing an update, Samsung says its Smart Switch computer software may offer an update when the phone is connected by USB. This is optional; you do not need Smart Switch just to view the installed patch. Samsung US software-update instructions
