On desktop Firefox, open Settings > Home and startup, then choose an option under Homepage and new windows. Select Custom URLs… to enter a website, Firefox Home (Default) for Firefox’s built-in page, or Blank page for an empty one. The steps differ on phones: Firefox for iOS has a Custom URL option, while Mozilla’s Android guidance covers home-screen sections and opening-screen behavior rather than the same custom-URL setting.
Set a homepage in desktop Firefox
- Open the Firefox menu and select Settings. In some contexts, this area may be called Preferences.
- Select Home and startup in the settings panel.
- Open the menu beside Homepage and new windows.
- Choose Firefox Home (Default), Custom URLs…, or Blank page. To use a website, choose Custom URLs… and enter its address. See Mozilla’s desktop homepage instructions.
You can also set the current page from the toolbar: open the page, drag its tab onto the Home button, then confirm Yes when prompted. The Home button is not displayed by default, but Mozilla says it is added automatically when you set a custom homepage. If you do not see it, use Settings instead.
Use more than one homepage
Open each page you want in its own tab, then choose Custom URLs… and select Use Current Pages, or enter the addresses individually. To make the homepage an empty page, choose Blank page.
Set a homepage on iPhone or iPad
- Open the Firefox menu. On iPhone it is at the bottom; on iPad it is at the top right.
- Tap Settings, then Homepage.
- Choose Firefox Home or Custom URL. If you select Custom URL, enter the web address you want.
To open the configured page later, use Homepage in the Firefox menu. Mozilla’s Firefox for iOS instructions were last updated July 8, 2024.

What homepage options Android Firefox provides
Mozilla’s Android guidance describes options for customizing the Firefox home screen, including sections such as Shortcuts, Jump back in, Bookmarks, Recently visited, and Stories. It also explains how to pin a website shortcut. These are not documented as the same custom homepage-URL control available on desktop and iOS. Features can vary by Firefox version, device, and region. See Mozilla’s Android home-screen customization guide.
Android also lets you choose which screen Firefox opens to. The documented choices are Homepage, Last tab, and Homepage after four hours of inactivity. Mozilla says Firefox opens to the homepage by default after four or more hours of inactivity, and to the last active tab if less time has passed. To change the choice, open Firefox’s Homepage settings. These are Android-specific behaviors, not desktop startup rules. Details are in Mozilla’s opening-screen guide, last updated July 13, 2025.

Choose between Firefox Home, a custom URL and a blank page

The Android and iOS options are not identical to this desktop menu: iOS offers Firefox Home or Custom URL, while the cited Android instructions focus on home-screen customization and the opening screen.
Homepage settings are not session restore
A homepage controls the page used as the homepage and for new windows; it does not restore the windows and tabs from your previous session. If you want your old tabs back, follow Mozilla’s separate session-restore instructions.

Fix a homepage that will not stick or changes unexpectedly
If Firefox opens the wrong page, check whether the Home button is available and whether your preferences are being saved. Mozilla also recommends checking for an extension or toolbar that may have taken over the homepage, and inspecting the Firefox shortcut you use to launch the browser for an added link. If the page changes unexpectedly, treat an extension, unwanted toolbar, or hijacking as possible causes and use Mozilla’s homepage troubleshooting guidance rather than repeatedly resetting the setting.

Control sponsored items on Firefox Home
Firefox Home or the New Tab page can show sponsored shortcuts, sponsored stories, or advertisements. Mozilla says sponsored items are marked and can be dismissed or disabled. On desktop, the controls are under Settings > Home and startup > Firefox Home Content; Mozilla also documents controls in Android and iOS settings.
