Your Galaxy may not be entering one single “sleep mode.” Most often, the screen is timing out after inactivity; a Power saving setting, a scheduled Mode or Routine, or a compatible accessory can also change when the display turns off. Check which trigger matches what you see, then adjust that setting.
First, identify what “sleep mode” means on your phone
If the display goes dark after roughly the same period with no touch input, check Screen timeout. If the timing changed after you enabled Power saving, inspect its timeout option. If the change happens at a particular time or under a particular condition, review Modes and Routines. These settings have different triggers, so changing the timeout may not fix an automatically activated Mode or Routine.
Samsung’s menu names and feature availability can vary by Galaxy model and software version. If a path below does not match your phone, open Settings and search for the named setting.
Change Screen timeout if the display turns off while idle
- Open Settings and search for Screen timeout. On phones where the menu is available directly, it is generally under Settings > Display > Screen timeout.
- Choose a longer available duration. Samsung’s US troubleshooting page describes choices from 15 seconds to 10 minutes; the available choices can differ by device and software.
- Leave the screen untouched for the chosen interval to see whether the behavior now matches the setting.
A longer timeout keeps the display on for longer when you are not using the phone and can use more battery. Samsung’s screen-turns-off troubleshooting guide covers timeout and related display settings.

Check Power saving if the timeout became shorter
On One UI 7, Samsung says Power saving can set Screen timeout to 30 seconds. If the screen began turning off sooner after you enabled Power saving, check whether that timeout action is on.
- Open Settings > Battery > Power saving.
- Review the available Power saving options and look for the Screen timeout action.
- If you want a longer timeout, turn off that action if it is enabled. You can keep Power saving on if desired, but confirm the resulting timeout in Settings.

Review automatic Modes and Routines
A Mode or Routine may activate a change on a schedule or when a condition is met. That can make the phone seem to enter sleep mode, but it does not mean every Sleep mode turns the display off; Samsung gives bedtime brightness as an example of a Routine-related action.
- Open Settings > Modes and Routines.
- On the Modes tab, check whether a mode is active or set to start automatically on a schedule or condition. Review its actions and schedule, and change or disable the relevant trigger if it accounts for the display behavior.
- Review saved Routines for a trigger and action that coincide with the screen going dark. Edit or disable only the Routine that matches the behavior.
Samsung notes that Modes and Routines availability can vary by device and software version. Its Modes and Routines guide explains the feature.

Check viewing and accessory settings
Keep screen on while viewing
If the display turns off while you are looking at it, search Settings for Keep screen on while viewing. If the feature is available on your phone, enable it and check whether the issue continues. Samsung says this feature may not be present on some devices or software versions.
Auto screen on and off for a case or accessory
If you use a flip cover or another compatible accessory, check Settings > Advanced features > Accessories for Auto screen on and off. Review or disable it to test whether the accessory setting is causing the display to switch off. Samsung says this option appears only with certain cases or accessories.

- Restart the phone, then check whether the behavior persists.
- Install available system and app updates, then test again.
- If the display remains abnormal, consider whether a recent app or accessory could be involved. Samsung identifies temporary system errors, compatibility issues, and physical damage as possible factors; a setting check alone cannot determine whether hardware is damaged.
