Yes—Samsung says Galaxy SmartTag3 works with iPhone for core finding and sharing features through SmartThings Find. You need an iPhone running iOS 17 or later, the SmartThings app, and a Samsung Account. Some features remain Galaxy-only: Compass View, Ring Phone, and Left Behind Alert are not available on iOS.
What you need before setup
- An iPhone running iOS 17 or later, Samsung’s stated minimum for SmartTag3. The SmartThings app’s general iOS support listing is lower, but the product-specific requirement is the one to follow for this tag: Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 and SmartThings app requirements.
- The SmartThings app from the Apple App Store, Bluetooth and local-network access enabled, and a Samsung Account.
- The SmartTag3 itself. Samsung announced a staged release: Korea availability begins October 7, 2026, followed by the U.S.; its announcement does not give an exact U.S. retail date. Check local availability before buying: Samsung’s launch announcement.
Set up SmartTag3 on your iPhone
- Install SmartThings. Download Samsung SmartThings from the Apple App Store. Open it, allow Bluetooth and local-network access when prompted, then sign in to a Samsung Account or create one.
- Activate the tag. Press the SmartTag3 button, then open SmartThings and follow the on-screen prompts to add or register the tag and complete its settings. Samsung’s published SmartTag setup guidance describes this button-activation and in-app-prompt workflow: Samsung SmartTag setup instructions.
- Find the tag in SmartThings Find. Use the supported options in the app to check its location, share the tag, or use Search Nearby on supported iOS devices. Labels and prompts may differ from older SmartTag instructions, so follow what the current SmartThings app displays for SmartTag3.
- Prepare Lost Mode if you may need it. Before the tag is lost, register your contact information and a message in SmartThings. A person who finds it needs an NFC-capable device and an internet connection to scan the tag and display that information: Samsung Lost Mode guidance.
What works on iPhone—and what does not
Samsung presents SmartTag3 as the first Galaxy SmartTag generation with cross-operating-system support for core finding and sharing. That is a change from older SmartTag and SmartTag+ support guidance, which says iOS is unsupported; do not apply those older compatibility instructions to SmartTag3.
| Capability | On iPhone | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Core finding and sharing through SmartThings Find | Supported | Samsung says SmartTag3 supports these core features across Galaxy and iOS devices. |
| Search Nearby | Supported on compatible iOS devices | Use the option shown in SmartThings Find. |
| Compass View | Not available | Samsung identifies this as unavailable on iOS. |
| Ring Phone | Not available | This is unavailable on iOS. Samsung also says the tag’s Ring feature requires the tag to be connected to a smartphone or tablet. |
| Left Behind Alert | Not available | Samsung identifies this as unavailable on iOS. |
Samsung notes that feature availability can vary by platform. Its feature exclusions and platform qualifications are listed on the SmartTag3 product page.
How SmartTag3 location updates work
SmartTag3 is not continuous GPS tracking from your iPhone. Samsung says the Galaxy Find Network can update a tag’s location through nearby participating Galaxy devices. Whether an update arrives depends on those devices being nearby and on the surrounding conditions; location alerts can be delayed or may not arrive. Treat the displayed location as a network-reported update, not a guarantee of the tag’s live position: Samsung’s explanation of the Galaxy Find Network and Samsung’s SmartTag guidance.

Battery, size, and attachment
Samsung Electronics America says SmartTag3 is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous generation. Samsung also claims up to 550 days of battery life under standard usage and up to 790 days in power-saving mode. These are manufacturer figures, not independent test results; actual battery life varies with use and conditions. Samsung lists a silicone case with keyring and a loop case for SmartTag3 as separately sold accessories, which may help attach it to keys, a bag, or luggage.
