Not reliably on the evidence available. An iPhone running iOS 17.5 or later can alert you to compatible unknown Bluetooth trackers, but Apple and Samsung’s published documentation does not confirm that Galaxy SmartTags work with Apple’s unwanted-tracking alert system. Samsung documents a separate unknown-tag feature in SmartThings Find; its support information does not establish that the feature is available on iPhone.
What an iPhone’s tracker alert does—and does not—mean
Apple’s alerts are for unknown Bluetooth trackers compatible with the Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers industry specification. They are not a universal detector for every Bluetooth tracker. Apple says an alert may appear when a compatible tracker is separated from its owner and is seen moving with you over time.
This is different from pairing a tracker with a phone or viewing its location in an app. Those capabilities do not, by themselves, show that the tracker will trigger an unwanted-tracking alert.
Are Galaxy SmartTags confirmed to trigger iPhone alerts?
The official Apple and Samsung materials cited here do not confirm that any Galaxy SmartTag model implements the industry specification used for Apple’s cross-platform alerts. That means compatibility is unresolved—not that every SmartTag is proven incompatible.

- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
Samsung’s SmartTag3 announcement refers to cross-OS support, but does not say that SmartTags trigger Apple’s unwanted-tracking notifications. Broad cross-OS language is not proof of this specific safety feature. Samsung’s SmartTag support page describes locating SmartTag and SmartTag+ through SmartThings; it does not settle iPhone alert compatibility.
How Samsung’s unknown-tag feature differs
SmartThings Support documents a setting called “Unknown Tag Detection (Experimental Labs Integration)”. It describes alerts for an unknown SmartTag detected moving with the user’s device. This is a Samsung-documented SmartThings feature, not confirmation that it runs on iPhone or that the tag supports Apple’s separate industry specification.

Samsung’s documentation therefore establishes a detection route within SmartThings, but not a dependable iPhone route for detecting an unwanted Galaxy SmartTag.
Check that your iPhone is set up for compatible trackers
These settings enable Apple’s alerts for compatible unknown Bluetooth trackers; they cannot make an unconfirmed tracker compatible. Apple’s current instructions specify:

Tap the notification and continue through the prompts. Apple says you can use Play Sound to help locate a compatible tracker; Find Nearby may also be available for supported combinations. Find My can show a map of detections. These tools help investigate an alert, but no alert does not prove that no tracker is present.

If sound or precision finding is unavailable, Apple advises checking your belongings and vehicle; the tracker may no longer be nearby. If you feel at risk, go to a safe public place and contact local law enforcement. See Apple’s safety guidance for unwanted-tracking alerts for the available steps.
