Windows 11 26H2 is generally available, but Microsoft is offering it in phases to eligible PCs running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2. First check your hardware with PC Health Check; then use Windows Update if 26H2 is offered. Passing the hardware check does not guarantee an immediate offer: rollout timing and compatibility safeguards can delay it.
Check whether your PC meets Windows 11 requirements
On a Windows 10 PC, download Microsoft’s PC Health Check, open it, and select Check now. It reports whether the device meets Windows 11’s minimum requirements and can explain a failed check. Windows Update separately assesses whether an upgrade is available, so a PC can meet the hardware requirements without being offered 26H2 yet.
Microsoft’s current Windows 11 system requirements include:
- Processor: 1 GHz or faster, with at least two cores, and on Microsoft’s approved processor list. Meeting the speed and core-count figures alone is not sufficient.
- Memory: 4 GB RAM.
- Storage: A storage device of 64 GB or larger.
- Firmware and security: UEFI firmware that is Secure Boot capable, plus TPM version 2.0.
- Graphics: DirectX 12 or later compatibility and a WDDM 2.0 driver.
- Display: More than 9 inches, at least 720p resolution, and 8 bits per color channel.
These are minimums; particular features and apps may need more. Microsoft’s 26H2 release notice names eligible Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 devices for initial availability, so meeting the general Windows 11 requirements does not mean an older Windows version will receive the 26H2 offer directly.

Install 26H2 through Windows Update
Windows Update is the simplest route when Microsoft has made the release available to your device. Microsoft’s 26H2 release-health notice, current September 29, 2026, says the rollout is phased and will expand over the next few months.
- Install any pending Windows updates and restart the PC.
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Turn on Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available.
- Select Check for updates. If Windows 11 version 26H2 appears, choose to download and install it.
- Restart when prompted to complete installation.
Microsoft describes 26H2 as a servicing-based update for eligible devices; one restart completes the installation after it downloads and installs. Back up important files before upgrading as a precaution.

Why Windows Update may not offer 26H2
No offer does not necessarily mean your PC failed the hardware check. The rollout may not have reached your device, or Microsoft may be withholding the update because of a compatibility safeguard. Check the current 26H2 release-health page for known issues and safeguard information before trying another installation route. Do not assume an alternate installer removes a hold or makes unsupported hardware eligible.
Microsoft listed three issues as mitigated on the September 29, 2026 status update: some USB Audio Class 1.0 devices might fail to start or produce no sound; some domain-joined devices might lose their secure trust relationship; and some virtual desktop environments might show a black screen or desktop-loading problem after sign-in. Status can change, so consult the live page before installing.

Windows Update, Installation Assistant, or installation media?

Microsoft’s Windows 11 download page identifies 26H2 as the current release and provides the Installation Assistant and media options. Before using media, decide whether you are upgrading in place or installing fresh: booting from the media and choosing a fresh installation erases the drive. Back up first and read each Setup screen before proceeding. The official download page does not establish a specific USB drive capacity or recommend a brand; check the current media-creation requirements if you choose to create a bootable drive.
What to do if PC Health Check says your PC is ineligible
Use the specific PC Health Check result to identify what is blocking installation. Depending on the device, its manufacturer may offer a memory or storage upgrade, or firmware settings may provide a way to enable TPM or Secure Boot. These options vary by PC, and not every device can be made eligible.

If the processor is not on Microsoft’s approved list or the device cannot meet another requirement, installing anyway is not a supported workaround. Microsoft warns that installing Windows 11 on a device that fails minimum requirements is not recommended and may result in compatibility problems and lack of support or update entitlement. The Installation Assistant and installation media do not change those requirements.

Microsoft lists Windows 11 26H2 as OS build 26300 in its release information. Use Windows Update and the version-specific release-health notices to check whether the update is available for your PC and whether known issues affect your setup.
