Wave is still being developed, but “comeback” should be read as a description of renewed public activity—not a confirmed shutdown and relaunch. The project’s early DEV.to announcement introduced its first usable pre-beta release; later release notes and an August 2026 explainer show continued work. Wave remains pre-beta, so readers should expect instability rather than a production-ready language.

What is the Wave programming language?

Wave is a programming-language project associated with creator and lead maintainer LunaStev. In the February 2025 announcement of Wave v0.0.1-pre-beta, LunaStev described the first usable pre-beta version and said Wave code could be compiled into binaries through LLVM. That announcement also acknowledged early limitations, including temporarily suspended Windows support.

This history matters when interpreting later updates: the announcement marked an early usable stage, not a finished language or a guarantee of long-term stability.

Is Wave still being developed?

The available project activity indicates continued development. The GitHub releases page lists v0.2.0-pre-beta, dated August 4, with changes that include Vex tooling stabilization and Windows validation. In an explainer dated August 24, 2026, LunaStev wrote: “Wave is currently in Pre Beta, and at the time of writing, the latest version is `v0.2.0-pre-beta`.”

That explainer is titled “Why the Pre Beta Version of Wave Is Unstable”. Its description of the project as pre-beta—and its explicit focus on instability—means the current evidence supports calling Wave an evolving project, not stable or production-ready software.

What does “comeback” mean in this context?

It is reasonable to call the activity a return to public attention or posting, but the cited sources do not establish that Wave was formally discontinued and then relaunched. The early announcement, subsequent release listing, and project posts show activity at different points; they do not establish an official shutdown or a formal DEV Community comeback announcement.

The DEV profile for LunaStev provides creator and project context, while the Wave blog archive lists project posts. Neither should be treated as evidence of a discontinued-and-restarted project without a direct statement to that effect.

What is new in v0.2.0-pre-beta?

The release listing highlights work on the compiler and its surrounding tooling, including Vex tooling stabilization and Windows validation. Those are signs of ongoing implementation and platform work, but they do not establish a complete feature set, broad compatibility, or production readiness. Consult the release notes for the exact changes and version information before trying the project.
