The series is scheduled to become available in the US on October 7, 2026, so the workflow below reflects Samsung’s published guidance—not hands-on testing of an S12 tablet. Samsung’s US announcement and US product page describe DeX; Samsung’s general compatibility list has not yet caught up.
What Samsung DeX does on the Galaxy Tab S12
DeX gives the tablet a desktop-style workspace in which you can use multiple app windows instead of staying in a single full-screen app. Samsung describes the S12 experience as letting users open, resize, and arrange apps and workflows. This can be useful when, for example, you want a document beside notes, or a project plan beside reference material.
There is a documentation mismatch to keep in mind: Samsung’s US S12 pages promote DeX, while Samsung UK’s general DeX compatibility and help page currently lists the Tab S11 series and earlier, not the S12. That omission does not establish that S12 lacks DeX, but the list also does not independently confirm S12 compatibility. Samsung has not published model-specific external-display connection details for S12 in the cited material.
Move an app into the DeX workspace
- Open DeX on the tablet to enter the desktop-like workspace. Samsung’s S12 product information promotes DeX, but the cited material does not specify a model-specific menu path for turning it on.
- Open the app you want to use. Samsung’s tablet instructions describe moving an app to the workspace from its open-app view.
- Pull down the app’s handle and move it onto the DeX desktop workspace. This is Samsung’s published tablet workflow for switching an app into DeX.
- Repeat with other apps, then resize and arrange their windows to suit the task. Samsung says S12 users can open and resize multiple apps in DeX; exact behavior can depend on the app.
Samsung’s general DeX guidance says up to four workspaces are available, with up to five apps open in each. If you launch a sixth app in a workspace, Samsung says the first app opened is minimized. These are general support-page limits, not S12-specific test results.

Choose professional apps by the work you need to do
Samsung names these apps in its S12 launch materials as options for creative, study, and organizational work. Their inclusion does not establish that each is optimized for DeX or offers the same features as its desktop counterpart. Before relying on one, check that its Android version supports the tools you need and that your account or license covers them.

Samsung cautions that some apps may not run in DeX or may require a separate paid license. Its general UK DeX help page says: “Certain apps may not run or require a separate license (for purchase) on Samsung DeX.” This is a general caveat, not an app-by-app S12 compatibility list. Test must-have features and sign-in or licensing requirements before building a work process around an app.

Decide whether wireless DeX or a keyboard fits your setup
Wireless DeX with a TV
Samsung’s general help guidance says wireless DeX with TVs works with TVs that support Android smartphone screen mirroring (Miracast). Samsung warns that performance can vary with the TV and Wi-Fi environment. The cited material does not confirm a particular wired monitor connection method for the S12 models, so check Samsung’s model-specific instructions before planning a monitor-based setup.
Keyboard and trackpad
An optional keyboard can make the tablet feel more workstation-like for typing and pointer-based tasks. Samsung lists a Pro Keyboard and Book Cover Keyboard Slim; its US product page describes the S12 Ultra’s Pro Keyboard with a trackpad. Confirm exact model fit and availability in your market before buying an accessory, since the cited material does not establish every keyboard SKU’s compatibility.

Choose between the S12 Ultra and S12+
The main DeX trade-off established by Samsung’s specifications is workspace size versus portability and starting price. The larger Ultra panel may be more comfortable for arranging multiple windows, but that is a practical inference from display size—not a tested productivity or performance comparison.

What the launch claims do—and do not—tell you
Samsung Electronics America says the S12 series delivers up to 61% faster NPU processing, 19% faster CPU performance, and 17% improved GPU power versus the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. These are Samsung’s 2026 launch comparisons, not independent benchmark results, and they do not establish how any particular DeX app will perform.
Samsung also claims up to 23 hours of battery life for the S12 Ultra and up to 21 hours for the S12+. These are manufacturer-stated test claims, not a promise of runtime for a specific DeX workload such as video editing or sustained multi-window use.

Samsung’s 2026 US launch announcement describes a four-month mobile-plan offer for Photoshop, plus launch offers or access periods involving LumaFusion, Goodnotes, Notability, Clip Studio Paint, and Notion. Samsung says offer availability and terms can vary; promotional periods and eligibility may differ by market or change. Its stated approximate $445 value for app benefits is a promotional estimate, not cash savings available to every buyer. Read the terms for your region and confirm whether a paid subscription begins after any included access period.
