Before buying camera-equipped smart glasses, verify that your phone and region are supported, compare the exact model’s camera modes and battery claims, check frame and prescription fit, and understand how recording is signaled. Then confirm the seller’s return terms and the warranty that applies where you live. Specs differ by model and generation, so a broad “smart glasses” label is not enough to make a safe comparison.
1. Confirm your phone, app, and region are supported
Compatibility can vary even within one product family. Ray-Ban’s FAQ says its glasses require a smartphone running Android 10 or later or iOS 14.4 or later, wireless internet, and a valid Meta account. The Meta Blayzer Optics Gen 2 listing specifies Android 10 minimum and iOS 15.2 or later. Use the requirements on the exact model’s current product page and check the app’s current listing before ordering; the broader FAQ’s iOS minimum does not override a model-specific requirement.
Oakley’s official help page also lists a smartphone, Meta AI app, wireless internet, and Meta account for Oakley Meta glasses. If you are buying another brand or generation, confirm its requirements separately rather than assuming they match.
- Check that your phone’s operating system meets the exact model’s minimum.
- Confirm the required app is available for your phone and in your country.
- Check whether a Meta account and Wi-Fi or other internet access are needed for setup and features.
- If charging from a wall outlet, Ray-Ban says a USB-C charging plug is required; verify whether a suitable adapter is included.
2. Compare what the camera actually records
Look for the camera resolution, video resolutions and frame rates, capture controls, and any clip-length limits. For example, Meta lists a 12 MP ultra-wide camera on its Blayzer Optics Gen 2 page, with image acquisition at 3024 × 4032 pixels and video modes including 720p+ at 120 fps, 1080p+ at 30 or 60 fps, and 3K Ultra HD at 30 fps. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent image-quality test results. Meta’s September 17, 2025 announcement also describes Gen 2 video capture as 3K Ultra HD.

Recording controls matter as much as maximum resolution. Ray-Ban’s FAQ lists one-touch video durations of 30 seconds, 60 seconds, and 3 minutes for supported glasses. Confirm the modes and limits for the exact model: a feature listed for one generation should not be assumed to apply to every pair.
- Choose based on how you will use the footage: higher resolution may matter for detail, while frame rate affects the motion options available.
- Check whether the camera’s field of view, photo format, and video controls suit your intended use.
- Look for storage capacity and how recordings move from the glasses to your phone. Meta says captures remain on the glasses until the user transfers them through the Meta AI app; the Blayzer Optics Gen 2 listing specifies 32 GB of flash storage.
3. Treat battery figures as manufacturer estimates
Meta’s 2025 announcement says Gen 2 offers up to eight hours of typical use, can reach 50% charge in 20 minutes, and gets an additional 48 hours of charging from its case. The Blayzer Optics Gen 2 listing describes more than eight hours of use and up to 48 hours with a fully charged case. These are manufacturer claims, not results from an independent runtime test. Intensive camera, call, and audio use can change actual runtime.
Check whether the stated figure refers to the glasses alone, a charging case, or a particular use pattern. Also verify what comes in the box: Ray-Ban’s FAQ says the package includes a charging case, quick-start guide, safety and warranty guide, prescription lens instructions, and cleaning cloth. Do not assume another brand or configuration includes the same accessories.
4. Make sure the frame and lenses will work for you
Smart glasses need to fit like glasses you can comfortably wear, not just electronics that meet a spec sheet. Check the frame dimensions, weight, nose fit, and whether the shape suits your prescription and daily use.

Meta lists the Blayzer Optics Gen 2 in standard and large sizes. Its stated weights are 49.2 g and 52 g, respectively, and the page lists prescription support from -12.00 to +6.00 total power for this named model. That range should not be generalized to other frames. The listing describes an order flow to select a frame, enter a prescription, and configure lenses.
- Confirm your prescription falls within the exact frame’s supported range.
- Check which lens types, coatings, and tints are available in your region.
- Ask how fitting, adjustments, and replacement lenses are handled, especially if you plan to use a local optician.
- Read the return policy for prescription lenses; customized lenses may have different return terms from standard frames.
5. Understand the recording indicator and privacy limits
Ray-Ban identifies a front-facing capture LED as a signal that photo or video is being recorded. Meta says the LEDs activate during capture and that the system prevents recording if the light is covered. Meta’s Responsible Innovation guidance says: “If you want to capture a photo or video, make sure that you ask for permission from those around you.”
An indicator is a signal, not consent and not proof that everyone nearby noticed it. A reviewer at Digital Camera World raised the concern that the small light may be difficult to see in daylight. Consider the setting where you intend to use the glasses, check venue rules, and check applicable local law; requirements can differ by place and situation.
6. Check local availability, returns, and warranty
Before paying, verify that the exact model and lens configuration are sold through an authorized seller in your country. Ray-Ban’s FAQ lists supported purchase countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Australia; it also notes regional exclusions and select Meta markets. The list and product availability can change, so check the current official regional listing.

Ray-Ban states a manufacturer defect warranty of one year generally and two years for purchases in the EU or EFTA. Seller return rights and prescription-lens terms may differ from the manufacturer warranty. Confirm all of these before checkout:
- Whether the seller is authorized and the product is the exact generation advertised.
- The return window and whether opened or prescription-configured glasses can be returned.
- Who handles warranty service and which regional warranty applies.
- Whether the model is officially available in your market and works with the local app and services.
Meta’s September 2025 announcement described Gen 2 availability at that time, including Switzerland and the Netherlands as additions. That is historical launch information, not a current global availability list.

When comparing two pairs, record the same information for each exact frame and generation. Manufacturer claims should be kept distinct from hands-on test results.
