What order should you play the Metro games in?
- Metro 2033 Redux — the beginning of the story, set in 2033.
- Metro: Last Light Redux — the continuation, set in 2034.
- Metro Exodus — the later journey with Artyom and the Aurora crew.
The official Metro story guide labels Metro 2033 “The beginning” and Last Light “The story continues.” The Exodus story announcement follows Artyom, Anna, and the Aurora crew as they leave Moscow for a journey through the Russian wastelands. For newcomers, the publisher has also described a three-game bundle with these entries as a way to start the franchise from the beginning.
This order is a narrative recommendation, not a technical requirement: the available official information does not say that Exodus requires a save file or completion of the earlier games. You can start with Exodus if that is the game you own or want to play, but you will miss the earlier story context.
What does Metro Redux include?
Metro Redux bundles definitive Redux editions of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. That makes it the straightforward choice if you do not own the first two games and want to follow the story from its start. Check the listing for your platform and edition, since availability and compatibility vary.

PLAION describes Last Light Redux as a definitive version rebuilt in a later iteration of the 4A Engine. Its product information says it includes previously released DLC, which PLAION estimates adds 10 hours of bonus single-player content, as well as features such as melee animations, watch and ammunition checks, and full-body player animations. It also lists Survival and Spartan play styles and Ranger Mode. The 10-hour figure is the publisher’s estimate, not an independently measured playtime.
Steam Support lists both Redux games with an August 25, 2014 release date and credits 4A Games as developer and Deep Silver as publisher. That date applies to the Steam listings; it should not be assumed to be the launch date for every console edition.

Should you choose Redux or Exodus?

For current listings, verify the platform and edition before purchase; do not assume prices, stock, or compatibility from the game title alone.
