What is GetReal Security?
GetReal Security is a cybersecurity company that helps enterprises and government organizations identify and manage threats involving manipulated or AI-generated digital media. Its work spans detection and mitigation, as well as security-team training, policy-development assistance and incident response.
The company emerged from stealth in 2024 following incubation associated with Ballistic Ventures and UC Berkeley professor Hany Farid. Its stated customer sectors include multinational corporations, financial institutions, media organizations, government agencies and social-media companies.
Who invested in GetReal’s $17.5 million round?
Forgepoint Capital led the Series A. The other participants were Ballistic Ventures, Evolution Equity, K2 Access Fund, In-Q-Tel (IQT), Cisco Investments and Capital One Ventures. The syndicate brings together cybersecurity investors and corporate and government-focused participants. GetReal said it would use the funding for product innovation and digital-content authentication.

How does GetReal address deepfakes and impersonation?
GetReal analyzes image, audio and video content to help organizations assess whether media may be manipulated or synthetically generated. That analysis is intended to support risk management and threat mitigation; the company also describes services for training security teams, developing policies and handling incidents.
GetReal Labs co-founder and interim CEO Ted Schlein described the problem as a growing need to verify and authenticate digital media as AI-generated content spreads and bad actors exploit it. The company’s public funding announcement does not establish a detection-accuracy rate or a comparable benchmark, so its capabilities should not be treated as proof that any particular item of media is authentic or fake.

What does GetReal Inspect do?
GetReal’s company history records the launch of GetReal Inspect in February 2025 as a service for deep, multidimensional forensic analysis of images, audio and video. TechCrunch describes Inspect as part of a broader toolset, alongside Protect, which screens media, and Respond, which provides deeper human-led analysis.
