A sudden drop in YouTube Shorts views does not, by itself, prove YouTube detected reused content or stopped recommending your channel. Check YouTube Studio’s Earn area and any email or in-product notice first. If YouTube has actually removed your channel from the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) for a policy violation, respond to the reason and deadline in that notice; do not treat a view decline as proof of a monetization decision or a reach penalty.
First, find out what actually changed
Open YouTube Studio > Earn and check the channel’s current monetization status and any stated policy reason. Then check the email address associated with the channel and Studio notifications for a policy notice. A lower view count alone is not evidence of a reused-content decision. YouTube assesses reused content at the channel level, and reviewers may consider a range of videos and channel information, not just the Short whose views fell. Separate a YPP decision from a restriction on an individual video, an invalid-traffic adjustment, or a change in how many viewers are being reached. The location and wording of a notice, an earnings adjustment, and the channel’s analytics can help distinguish these cases. Without account-specific notices and analytics, the reason for a particular decline cannot be diagnosed from the view total alone.

What YouTube means by reused content
YouTube’s monetization policy says content should be original and authentic. Reused content is material taken from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or meaningful educational or entertainment value. Reviewers may consider a channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the videos accounting for the largest share of watch time, metadata, and the About section. Examples that may meet the policy include critical reviews, commentary, reaction videos, or edits that add substantive value. The key is that viewers can tell what the creator contributed—through original analysis, explanation, narrative, or a meaningful transformation—not simply that the footage has been cut or rearranged. Copyright is a separate issue: passing a reused-content review does not establish that you have rights to use someone else’s material.
On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” policy “inauthentic content” to clarify that it covers repetitive or mass-produced content. What to do if YouTube removed your channel from YPP
- Read the channel-specific notice. Confirm the stated policy reason and the steps available to you in Studio and the associated email. Follow the notice if its case-specific instructions differ from general help guidance.
- Review the channel as a whole. Look beyond the Short that lost views. Check whether repeated formats or borrowed clips make up a substantial part of the channel, including its most-viewed and newest videos.
- Make your original contribution clear. For borrowed material, consider whether the video includes substantial commentary, analysis, explanation, or creative transformation that viewers can readily identify. Review the rights to third-party material separately.
- Choose the route in the notice. YouTube’s current help page says a suspended creator may appeal within 21 days or reapply after 90 days. A scheduled suspension notice may offer a 7-day appeal opportunity, with YouTube saying it responds within 14 days. These are procedural windows, not predictions of an outcome; use the deadline and instructions in your own notice. YouTube’s YPP suspension and appeal instructions
- For an appeal, provide relevant evidence. Explain the creative process and original value in the way the notice requests. Do not rely on a view-count drop as proof of a reused-content decision.
If you are addressing a policy violation rather than appealing, YouTube instructs creators to edit or remove content that violates its monetization policies. Make that decision based on the stated issue—not as a speculative way to restore views. YouTube’s YPP suspension and appeal instructions
Invalid traffic, Shorts eligibility, and recommendations are separate
Invalid traffic refers to artificial or incentivized activity, not a reused-content finding. YouTube may limit ad serving or adjust views and earnings when it detects invalid traffic. It says deleting, editing, or unlisting videos does not restore earnings associated with invalid traffic. Do not buy views or use engagement-boosting services as a recovery tactic. An ad-serving limit is not necessarily a recommendation ban. YouTube says that when it limits ad serving because of invalid traffic, it can still recommend content when relevant, and viewers may still find it through search. For YPP eligibility, a raw Shorts view total is not the same as qualifying views: only eligible public Shorts-feed views count toward the Shorts-view threshold. YouTube Partner Program eligibility requirements Separately, YouTube’s Shorts payment rules identify unedited third-party clips, reuploads, and compilations without original additions as examples of non-original Shorts whose engaged views are ineligible for revenue sharing. Should you delete or reupload Shorts to recover views?
No general YouTube guidance promises that deleting or reuploading Shorts will restore reach. If you have a reused-content policy issue, edit or remove material that violates the policy as part of addressing that issue. If the issue is invalid traffic, YouTube says deletion, editing, or unlisting does not recover the associated earnings. Base the action on the actual notice and policy—not on the assumption that a view drop proves detection or that reuploading will reverse it.

A practical check before taking action
- Check Earn and channel notifications for an explicit YPP decision and policy reason.
- Check affected videos for a video-specific restriction rather than assuming a channel-level action.
- Look for an invalid-traffic or earnings notice; do not confuse it with reused-content enforcement.
- Review the channel’s broader content and make original contributions clear in any borrowed-material videos.
- Use the appeal route and deadline in the notice, or follow the stated reapplication path.
- Avoid purchased traffic, mass reuploads, or deletion as an unsupported reach-recovery tactic.
