The best alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S26 depends on what you want to change: spend less, get longer telephoto reach, keep Samsung’s interface for less, or switch to iOS. The S26 is a useful price reference at $899 for 256 GB, as listed by TechRadar in 2026—not a live quote or a universal best choice. Below are options matched to specific budgets and priorities, with prices treated as dated snapshots as of October 3, 2026.

At a glance: which Galaxy S26 alternative fits?

Phone Best fit Price and storage reported in 2026 Main trade-off
Google Pixel 10 Google software and longer telephoto reach $799 for 128 GB; $899 for 256 GB (Android Authority article-time prices) Choose it for its software and camera priorities, not because it is automatically better for every Android user.
OnePlus 13R Lower-cost performance, a large battery and fast wired charging $599.99 MSRP (Android Authority); third-party listings were reported at $600 or less at the time of its article Weaker ultrawide camera, IP65 rating, no wireless charging and four major Android OS upgrades, according to Android Authority’s comparison.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Samsung users who want a less expensive flagship-tier option $799.99 MSRP (Android Authority) Older model with a 6.2-inch display and 4,000 mAh battery.
Samsung Galaxy S25 FE Keeping Samsung’s ecosystem at a lower listed price $650 for 128 GB; $710 for 256 GB (Android Authority) A lower-tier model with compromises compared with the S26; its reported $450 promotion was in the past, not a current offer.
Apple iPhone 17 People who prefer iOS or already use Apple services and devices $799 starting price (TechRadar review listing) It runs iOS, so platform and ecosystem preference is the key distinction from the Android S26.
Google Pixel 10a Buyers setting a firm budget below $500 Tom’s Guide named it its best phone under $500 on September 21, 2026; a current model-and-storage price was not stated. Confirm the live unlocked price, storage and availability before comparing it with more expensive models.

Prices and availability in this table are source-reported figures, not guaranteed current offers. Check the manufacturer or seller listing for the exact unlocked model and storage tier before buying.

What the Galaxy S26 gives you as a reference point

Samsung’s 2026 announcement lists the Galaxy S26 with a 6.3-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, 167 g weight, 4,300 mAh battery, 12 GB memory and 256 GB or 512 GB storage. Its rear cameras are a 50 MP wide, 12 MP ultrawide and 10 MP telephoto, with 3x optical zoom and 2x “optical quality” zoom. Samsung says the processor varies by market: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy or Exynos 2600. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series announcement has the specifications.

TechRadar listed the US 256 GB S26 at $899 and reported that Samsung announced the series on February 25, 2026, with deliveries beginning March 11, 2026. Treat $899 as that publication’s 2026 starting-price reference, not a guaranteed present-day price. TechRadar’s Galaxy S26 review carries the listing.

Similar price, different Android experience: Google Pixel 10

The Pixel 10 is the closest match here for someone willing to spend near S26 money but more interested in Google’s software experience. Android Authority lists it at $799 for 128 GB and $899 for 256 GB, so compare the same storage tier rather than treating the lower starting price as a like-for-like comparison. The article also mentioned an Amazon price as low as $675 at the time it was written; that is a historical sale snapshot, not a current offer.

Camera reach is a specific reason to consider it: Android Authority contrasts the Pixel 10’s 5x telephoto with the S26’s 3x optical telephoto. That distinction may matter when photographing distant subjects. It does not establish that one phone’s overall camera system is better for every person, and Android Authority’s favorable view of Google’s interface and AI features is a preference rather than a universal ranking. See Android Authority’s S26 alternatives comparison.

Lower-cost Android with battery and charging priorities: OnePlus 13R

The OnePlus 13R is the value-focused option if you want to spend less than the S26 and put a premium on battery capacity, wired charging and performance. Android Authority lists a $599.99 MSRP and describes a 6,000 mAh battery, 80 W wired charging, a bright, sharp display and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance. Battery capacity alone does not predict real-world runtime, which also depends on use and settings.

The compromises matter: the same comparison identifies a weaker ultrawide camera, IP65 rather than the S26’s IP68, no wireless charging, and four major Android OS upgrades. OnePlus no longer sells this model directly, according to Android Authority; its article reported third-party listings, including Amazon and Best Buy, at $600 or less at that time. Verify current stock, seller, price and the support policy for your region before purchase. This is a lower-cost trade-off, not a across-the-board upgrade. Android Authority’s comparison details the specs and availability it reported.

Keep Samsung’s interface for less: Galaxy S25 or S25 FE

The Galaxy S25 is the more direct choice if you want to remain with Samsung and find it at a meaningfully lower price than the S26. Android Authority lists its MSRP at $799.99 and notes its 6.2-inch display and 4,000 mAh battery. Whether it is the better buy depends on the actual price of the S25 and S26 in your chosen configuration; a small discount may not justify choosing the older model.

The Galaxy S25 FE sits at a lower listed tier: Android Authority reports $650 for 128 GB and $710 for 256 GB. It has a 120 Hz AMOLED screen and Exynos 2400, but the comparison describes it as a downgrade from the S26 in several areas. Android Authority also recalls a $450 Samsung promotion, which was a past sale and should not be mistaken for today’s price. Check Android Authority’s comparison against current Samsung and retailer listings before deciding between either S25 model and the S26.

Switch platforms: Apple iPhone 17

TechRadar lists the iPhone 17 from $799 and describes it in its S26 review as a comparable-size option, assessing the two as matching on size, performance, battery life and camera quality. Those are the publication’s review judgments, not a guarantee that the phones will feel identical for every user. The practical dividing line is often iOS versus Android: consider the apps and services you rely on, how you share files or messages, and whether your existing accessories work with the platform you choose. See TechRadar’s S26 review for its comparison and listed price.

Below $500: Google Pixel 10a

If your budget stops below $500, Tom’s Guide selected the Pixel 10a as its best phone under $500 in a guide dated September 21, 2026. That category recommendation makes it a sensible model to investigate, but the available price information here does not establish a current price for a particular storage tier. TechRadar’s September 2026 budget-phone guide also compares the Pixel 10a with the Samsung Galaxy A56 and OnePlus 13R, emphasizing that camera flexibility, battery life and ecosystem priorities differ. Check live unlocked prices, storage, and seller before choosing among them. Tom’s Guide’s phone guide and TechRadar’s 2026 cheap-phone guide provide those editorial selections and comparisons.

How to make the comparison useful

  • Match storage and price type. Compare the same capacity, and distinguish MSRP or a starting price from a temporary retailer promotion. A 128 GB model is not a direct price comparison with a 256 GB S26.
  • Decide which software ecosystem you want. The S26 uses Samsung’s Android experience, Pixel offers Google’s interface, and iPhone runs iOS. Account for the apps, services and accessories you already use before treating a lower purchase price as a saving.
  • Check handling, not just screen size. Samsung gives the S26’s screen diagonal and weight, but the other listed models’ comparable dimensions and weights are not established here. If pocketability or one-handed use matters, compare the exact model dimensions in current manufacturer specifications.
  • Prioritize camera use cases. Telephoto reach, ultrawide quality and video capabilities are more useful buying criteria than megapixel counts alone. The sourced comparison specifically establishes the Pixel 10’s 5x telephoto versus the S26’s 3x optical telephoto; it does not settle every camera scenario.
  • Consider charging and battery together. OnePlus 13R’s reported 6,000 mAh capacity and 80 W wired charging differ from the S26’s 4,300 mAh battery, but capacity should not be converted directly into a runtime claim.
  • Check durability and support for the exact region. Android Authority’s comparison identifies IP65 for the OnePlus 13R versus IP68 for the S26, and four major Android OS upgrades for the 13R. Confirm regional specifications and current manufacturer support terms for the exact model you plan to buy.
  • Account for magnetic accessories. TechRadar’s S26 review says the S26 supports Qi2 but does not have built-in magnets, so magnetic accessories require a magnet-equipped case. Check the precise phone and case compatibility if that feature matters. TechRadar’s review discusses the S26’s Qi2 implementation.

Bottom-line buying choices

  • Choose the Pixel 10 if you want Google’s software approach and value the cited 5x telephoto reach.
  • Choose the OnePlus 13R if lower cost, battery capacity and fast wired charging outweigh its camera, durability and wireless-charging compromises.
  • Choose the Galaxy S25 if you want to stay with Samsung and its live price makes the older generation worthwhile; consider the S25 FE for a lower listed tier with more compromises.
  • Choose the iPhone 17 if you prefer iOS, and investigate the Pixel 10a if your ceiling is below $500.
