First, check the release notes and known issues for your exact Android beta branch and build. Battery drain, overheating, and app crashes can be beta-specific software defects, and the right support route depends on whether one app is failing or the phone as a whole is affected. There is no single fix established for every beta participant.
Start by checking your exact beta build
Android beta problems can vary by release. Android’s official Android 16 notes warn that a release “might have various stability, battery, or performance issues” and document fixes for particular battery-drain and crash problems. Other release notes describe overheating and unexpected reboots in Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5, and startup crashes in Android 17 QPR1. These are examples tied to particular builds, not evidence that every device with the same symptom has the same cause.
- Identify the branch and build installed on your phone. Use the beta program and device information available for your own enrollment; the cited release notes do not specify a universal UI path for finding this information.
- Open the official release notes for that branch and build. Check both known issues and fixes, including notes for later beta releases. A later build may document a fix for a problem in an earlier one.
- Classify the problem. Note whether just one app is affected or whether the phone has broad battery drain, thermal problems, or restarts. Also check whether the symptom appears in the notes for your exact build.
Android 16 release notes document excessive drain while a device was idle, high CPU load associated with drain, and drain associated with apps running in the background. Android 16 QPR3 notes describe an overnight drain issue addressed by optimizing background-process power consumption. If the battery drains unusually fast
Look for a battery-related known issue or fix in the notes for your installed build, especially if the drain began after the update and affects the phone broadly. A listed issue gives you a concrete basis for checking subsequent beta notes or reporting the problem; it does not prove that the listed defect is responsible for your device’s drain.

One technical mechanism developers investigate is a stuck partial wake lock. It can keep a phone’s CPU running while the display is off, preventing the device from entering lower-power states. Android’s documentation describes this as a developer-focused topic, not a universal consumer diagnostic or a guaranteed fix. Android Developers: Wake locks
If the phone overheats or unexpectedly reboots
Check the exact beta’s thermal and reboot notes. Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 release notes list a fixed thermal-management problem that caused devices to overheat and unexpectedly reboot during use. This establishes that a beta defect can cause those symptoms in a particular release; it does not establish that every warm phone has that defect or provide a general temperature threshold.

If your build’s notes do not cover the problem, report the device or system issue through the route specified by the beta’s official guidance. The cited sources do not establish a universal consumer recovery procedure for an overheating device. Android 17 QPR2 release notes
If one or more apps crash
Check the release notes before assuming the app needs reinstalling or the phone needs repair. Android 17 QPR1 notes mention some apps crashing on startup; Android 16 notes also record crashes affecting particular apps and system components, and Android 16 QPR3 describes a startup-crash fix related to system compatibility.

Android defines an app crash as an unexpected exit caused by an unhandled exception or signal. A crash may occur in a background component even when you were not actively using the app, so the symptom is not limited to an app visibly closing on screen. - Device-specific, Android system, or Google app issue: Use the Android Issue Tracker route identified in the beta guidance.
- Another app’s issue: Contact that app’s developer.
Before submitting a report, search the known issues and existing reports for your beta branch and build. If an existing issue matches, check its status rather than filing a duplicate. Android 16 release notes and beta guidance
