As of October 3, 2026, Google has not documented Gemini 4 Argon as generally available in the Gemini app’s model picker. Google announced a phased rollout that began with trusted cyber defenders in its Fairwind Program. It says broader access is planned for developers, enterprises, and consumers, starting with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers, but has not given a launch date, regional schedule, or confirmed app eligibility. Google’s September 30 announcement is the source for that rollout plan.
How do I access Gemini 4 Argon?
For now, there is no documented general-access method for selecting Argon in the Gemini app. Google’s initial release is for trusted cyber defenders through the Fairwind Program. Its announcement says Google intends to extend access to developers, enterprises, and consumers, beginning with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers. That describes planned rollout cohorts, not a confirmed entitlement for every subscriber or a guarantee that Argon will appear in the consumer app.
Google has not specified when general app access will begin, which countries will receive it first, or what subscription, if any, will be required. Check Google’s announcements and the live app selector rather than relying on a predicted date or assuming an upgrade will unlock Argon.
Why can’t I see Argon in the Gemini app?
The most likely explanation is that your account is not in a cohort with access: the announced initial rollout is limited to trusted cyber defenders, and general consumer availability has not been confirmed. Google’s statement that it plans to include Google AI Ultra subscribers in a later expansion is not confirmation that all Ultra subscribers already have access.

Which Gemini model is best for coding or everyday work?
For models currently documented in the app, choose according to the task rather than assuming one option is best for everyone. These are Google’s descriptions, not independent comparative test results.
| What you need to do | Starting choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Quick summaries, brainstorming, or routine prompts | Gemini Flash-Lite | Google describes it as an efficient workhorse designed for speed. |
| General tasks where you want a balance of speed and reasoning | Gemini Flash | Google positions Flash between speed and stronger reasoning across simple-to-complex tasks. |
| Difficult coding or math, or deeper work with text, files, images, and video | Gemini Pro | Google describes Pro as its most advanced option for these tasks and says it generally takes longer to respond than other models. |
| The highest reasoning effort, if the control is available to your account | Check the model and plan controls shown in Gemini | Google’s plan information describes thinking levels where available; higher reasoning settings use more of a user’s allowance. |
For coding, begin with Pro when the task is complex enough to benefit from deeper reasoning; for a quick code explanation or routine question, a faster option may be sufficient. If a response is not good enough, try a more capable model and compare the result. The right choice depends on the difficulty of the prompt and the controls and allowance available to your account.

Do I need Google AI Ultra?
Google has named AI Ultra subscribers among the intended starting cohorts for a future expansion, but its announcement does not establish Ultra as a guaranteed prerequisite, confirm access for all Ultra subscribers, or promise access through the Gemini app on a particular date. It also does not specify the relevant countries or exact plan entitlement. Treat Ultra as a named planned cohort—not proof of current Argon access—and check Google’s latest announcement and the model selector for your account.

Google describes Argon as aimed at complex workflows including software engineering, enterprise knowledge work, and cybersecurity defense. Its September 30, 2026 announcement reported a one-million-token output limit, up from a previous 64,000-token limit. Those are Google’s product claims; they do not establish consumer-app availability or guarantee a particular result on an individual task.

Google also published examples and benchmark figures tied to its own work: a quantum optimization example reported at 40% over a published baseline, a Rust video-decoder port reported as 2.7× faster, and a 77.9% score on DeepSWE v1.1. These are company-reported results in specific contexts, not independent comparisons or guarantees of what app users will experience.
The announcement lists introductory API prices of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with later prices stated as $4 and $20 respectively. These are API token prices, not Gemini app subscription prices, and they do not determine whether an app account can select Argon.
