To manage saved chats and data use, use the general Gemini Apps controls: Keep Activity and Gemini Apps Activity. The steps below apply to personal Google accounts; work and school accounts may be managed by an administrator.
What Argon’s announcement says—and does not say—about privacy
Google announced Gemini 4 Argon on September 30, 2026, and said it was rolling out to trusted cyber defenders through its Fairwind program. The announcement does not describe Argon-specific data-sharing or retention settings. The privacy controls below are Google’s general Gemini Apps account controls, so access to Argon does not itself establish that every user can use it or has a unique set of privacy options.
Find Gemini Apps Activity and choose whether to save future activity
For a personal Google account, open Gemini settings and select Gemini Apps Activity, or visit the Gemini activity page in Google My Activity. Google’s navigation labels and paths can vary by platform. In Gemini Apps Activity, you can review saved activity, delete it, change auto-delete, or turn Keep Activity off.
- To review history: Open Gemini Apps Activity and inspect the listed interactions.
- To stop saving future activity: In the activity controls, choose Turn off. If you also want to remove activity already listed there, choose Turn off and delete activity.
- To remove selected or older activity: Use the deletion controls in Gemini Apps Activity and choose the activity to delete.
When Keep Activity is on, saved activity can include chats and shared material such as files, videos, photos, audio, Gemini Live media, feedback, visited-site information, product usage, and location-related information. Google says it uses this activity to provide, develop, and improve services, including training generative AI models; personalization may also depend on settings and region. Choose how long saved activity remains
Google’s default auto-delete period for Gemini Apps Activity is 18 months. You can change it to 3 months or 36 months, or choose not to auto-delete. These options determine how long activity remains in account history; they are distinct from turning Keep Activity off.
What changes when you turn Keep Activity off
Future chats stop appearing in Gemini Apps Activity. Google says, unless you submit feedback, those future chats are not used to train its AI models. Turning the setting off does not mean immediate zero retention: Google may keep chats associated with the account for up to 72 hours so Gemini can respond, process feedback, and protect Google, users, and the public. Some Connected Apps may also become unavailable when Keep Activity is off. See Google’s explanation of Gemini Apps Activity for current details.

Control audio and Gemini Live media separately
Google says audio and Gemini Live videos and screenshares are not used to improve its services by default. A separate option in Gemini Apps Activity lets you opt in to that improvement use for stored and future eligible media. Turning off general activity controls and changing this media-improvement option address different choices; check the media option if you want to control it specifically. Understand connected apps, deletion, and location
Connected Google services
Google says it does not train generative AI models directly on the contents of your Gmail inbox, Drive, Contacts, Calendar, or Google Photos library. If you ask Gemini to use connected information, however, summaries, excerpts, generated media, and inferences from relevant material may be used to answer you and, while Keep Activity is on, to improve services. Disconnecting a service or deleting its source content does not by itself remove copies already included in Gemini Apps Activity. Google’s Connected Apps privacy information explains this distinction.

What deleting activity does not erase
Deleting Gemini Apps Activity controls visible account history and future use, but it is not a promise that every copy is erased. Google says activity already reviewed by service providers is disconnected from your account and retained for up to three years. Turning off Keep Activity also does not turn off other Google history settings, such as Web & App Activity or Location History. Google’s activity guidance and its privacy information describe these limits.
Location information
Google says precise location processed with permission is not stored in Gemini Apps Activity; stored location is generalized first. A location can still remain in chat text if it appears in your prompt or Gemini’s response, and other Google activity settings may separately retain location-related information. Export your Gemini data
To download a copy, use Google Takeout and include Gemini data and Gemini Apps Activity. Exporting creates an archive; it does not delete the original activity. If you send the archive to Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, or another third party, protect the destination folder and account for that service’s terms once it receives the copy. These steps describe personal accounts. For Google Workspace work or school accounts, administrators control Gemini Apps Activity settings. You may not be able to change retention yourself or see the applicable period; ask your organization’s administrator which controls apply.
