The company said the extension brought its total funding to $45 million, adding to an earlier $26 million Series A. LayerX sells browser-based enterprise security software designed to add controls to browsers organizations already use, rather than requiring a dedicated physical appliance.

LayerX’s April 28, 2025 announcement described the financing as an $11 million extension to its Series A. Combined with the earlier $26 million Series A, the company said it had raised $45 million in total. SecurityWeek reported the same financing details on April 29, 2025.

LayerX said existing investors Glilot Capital Partners and Dell Technologies Capital also participated. What LayerX browser security does
LayerX describes its product as a lightweight enterprise security extension and platform that adds protection to existing browsers. The company says it can integrate with Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, allowing organizations to retain preferred browsers while applying security visibility and policies.

The product is aimed at activity that happens in the browser, including employee use of GenAI tools and SaaS applications, browser extensions, web and SaaS data leakage, and other web threats. LayerX presents the browser as a control point for monitoring and governing those interactions. Its approach is software delivered through browser extensions and an enterprise security platform—not a physical security appliance.
Why browser-based controls matter for businesses
Employees may use generative AI services, cloud applications and browser add-ons through ordinary browser sessions. That makes the browser a place where identities, application access and company data come together. An extension-based security layer is intended to give IT and security teams more visibility into that activity and a way to apply policies without replacing every employee’s browser.
Rank #2
The distinction is important: LayerX’s stated model is to add controls to existing browsers, not to require workers to switch to a separate enterprise browser. The specific protections an organization receives depend on the product configuration and policies it deploys; the financing announcement does not establish detailed product performance or user-experience outcomes.

Akamai’s newsroom later said it had announced an agreement to acquire LayerX for approximately $205 million. Akamai described LayerX as a platform that adds protections to enterprises’ existing browsers and said the combined solution is intended to govern and secure workforce interactions with AI applications. The Akamai page does not state a year in the retrieved announcement, and an announced agreement should not be treated as confirmation that a transaction has closed. Ownership and availability may change as the transaction progresses.
