Some Samsung 6 Series TVs support AirPlay, but the series name alone is not enough to tell. Support depends on the TV’s model year and exact regional model. The quickest check is on the TV: open Settings > General and look for Apple AirPlay Settings. Samsung says a TV without that option is not supported.
Why “Samsung 6 Series” does not settle the question
Samsung’s AirPlay 2 support is selective, not a blanket feature of every TV carrying a Series 6 label. Samsung lists compatible TV categories from 2018 onward, including 2018 4K UHD TVs, but that category-level information does not confirm support for every Series 6 model sold in every country. The full model code and model year matter.
In its 6 January 2019 announcement, Samsung said all 2019 Smart TVs and select 2018 models would support AirPlay 2. It said support for those 2018 TVs would arrive through a firmware update. “Select” is important: the announcement does not establish that every 2018 TV, or every Series 6 TV, received support. Samsung’s announcement described video, photo, music and other playback from Apple devices on supported Samsung TVs.
Check your TV’s AirPlay settings
- Open the TV’s settings. Go to Settings > General and look for Apple AirPlay Settings. Menu wording can differ on newer generations, so check the equivalent options shown on your model.
- Use the result as the compatibility check. If Apple AirPlay Settings appears, open it and make sure AirPlay is turned on. If it is absent, Samsung’s UK support guidance says the device is not supported. That guidance was updated 7 January 2025: Samsung’s AirPlay setup and compatibility guidance.
- Confirm the model if the option is missing or unclear. Find the TV’s complete model code and check it against Samsung’s support information for your country. Regional model lists differ; the Series 6 name by itself is not a substitute for the exact code. Samsung’s Australia announcement provides an example of separate regional model families: Samsung Australia’s AirPlay 2 model announcement.
Use AirPlay once the TV is compatible
Connect the Samsung TV and Apple device to the same Wi-Fi network. On the Apple device, choose the TV through AirPlay in Photos or a compatible audio app. If the TV displays a code, enter it on the Apple device. Samsung’s setup guidance covers these connection steps: Samsung AirPlay setup instructions.

What if the TV has no AirPlay option?
Check the full model code and the regional Samsung support page before drawing a conclusion from the 6 Series label. Samsung’s guidance treats the missing Apple AirPlay Settings option as an indication that the device is unsupported. An Evolution Kit will not add AirPlay 2 or Apple TV functionality, according to Samsung’s Singapore guidance: Samsung Singapore’s AirPlay guidance.
