Windows 11’s built-in Clipboard History is the best place to start: press Windows logo key + V, then turn it on if prompted. If its 25-entry limit, 4 MB per-item limit, or restart behavior gets in the way, consider a dedicated manager. Seven products appear in 2026 coverage, but the available documentation does not establish that all seven are currently compatible, equally capable, or tested side by side. The comparison below separates documented details from options that need checking before you install them.

Start with Windows Clipboard History

Clipboard History is built into Windows 11 and may be enough if you mainly need to retrieve recent copies. Press Windows logo key + V and choose Turn on if history is disabled. Select the pin option on an entry you want to keep.

  • Capacity: Microsoft says history is limited to 25 copied entries. Older unpinned entries are removed as new copies arrive.
  • Item size and formats: Microsoft documents a 4 MB limit per item and support for text, HTML, and bitmap formats.
  • Persistence: History is cleared on restart except for pinned items.
  • Sync: In Settings > System > Clipboard, you can configure optional cross-device sync for devices signed in with the same Microsoft or work account. Microsoft offers automatic text sync or manual selection of items to sync.

These limits and behaviors are from Microsoft’s Using the clipboard guidance; Microsoft does not state a publication year for the figures on that page. If you handle sensitive work content, check your organization’s rules before enabling account-linked sync.

Seven clipboard-manager candidates

The seven names below were identified in a TechPP roundup dated April 2, 2026. That article is useful for discovering candidates, but it does not establish current compatibility, exact feature sets, comparative quality, or that the products were tested for this article. Where first-party evidence is not established here, the table says so rather than guessing.

Product What is established here What to verify before choosing
ClipClip Listed as a Windows clipboard-manager option in the TechPP roundup. Current Windows 11 support, history limits and retention, supported formats, search and pinning, sync, privacy controls, installation source, and licensing are not established by the cited roundup.
Ditto Listed in the TechPP roundup. The Ditto project page did not provide usable feature details in the material available for this comparison. Check current release and Windows 11 compatibility, supported formats, retention, sync behavior, privacy controls, and licensing in current project documentation.
CopyQ Listed in the TechPP roundup. The CopyQ project page did not provide enough detail in the material available here to substantiate specific features. Confirm current Windows 11 support, formats, organization and search features, persistence, sync, privacy controls, and licensing from current project documentation.
ClipboardFusion Binary Fortress documents local History and Pinned tabs, Online Recent and Online Pinned tabs, and a Macros tab. Its help guide says the default local history holds 100 items for five days; settings can change those values. Local lists can handle images and files, while the online synced tabs currently accept text items. Sync requires enabling the feature and signing into the same Binary Fortress account on both systems. Confirm current version-specific limits and licensing, and decide whether account-based sync and text-only online items fit your workflow. Details are in the vendor’s Clipboard Manager Help Guide.
Clipboard Master Listed as an option in the TechPP roundup. Current Windows 11 compatibility, formats, history behavior, search, sync, privacy controls, installation route, and licensing are not established by that source.
ClipMate Listed as an option in the TechPP roundup. Current Windows 11 compatibility, formats, history behavior, search, sync, privacy controls, installation route, and licensing are not established by that source.
Clipdiary Listed as an option in the TechPP roundup. Current Windows 11 compatibility, formats, history behavior, search, sync, privacy controls, installation route, and licensing are not established by that source.

Which option fits your workflow?

Choose Windows Clipboard History for recent copies and pinned essentials

Use the built-in history if 25 entries are enough, your copied items fit within Microsoft’s documented per-item limit, and clearing unpinned history on restart is acceptable. It avoids installing another clipboard utility. Configure sync only if you want copied text available across your signed-in devices.

Consider ClipboardFusion when its documented workflow matches your needs

ClipboardFusion is the most fully documented third-party candidate in this comparison. Its local history, pinned list, macros, and account-based online tabs may suit someone who wants more than Windows’ short history. Keep the local-versus-online distinction in mind: the guide documents images and files in local lists, but text items only in the synced online tabs.

Use PowerToys for clipboard text transformation, not as a proven replacement history manager

Microsoft PowerToys is a free, open-source utility suite. Its Advanced Paste feature can transform clipboard text into other formats and includes an optional AI-powered feature. Microsoft documents support for Windows 11 and Windows 10 version 2004 (20H1/build 19041) or newer on x64 or ARM64. PowerToys is a useful companion when text formatting is the problem; the cited material does not establish it as a replacement for a dedicated searchable, persistent clipboard archive. See the PowerToys overview and installation requirements.

Research the remaining candidates before entrusting them with copied data

For ClipClip, Ditto, CopyQ, Clipboard Master, and Clipdiary, the cited roundup establishes that they are candidates, not the details needed for a confident recommendation. Before installing one, check its current official documentation for Windows 11 compatibility, retention and restart behavior, file and image handling, search and pinning, sync destination, account requirements, exclusions, clearing or disabling capture, and licensing.

How to choose safely

  1. Define the missing capability. Decide whether you need a longer archive, search, pinned snippets, richer formats, automation, or cross-device access. A specific need makes it easier to rule out tools that merely duplicate Windows history.
  2. Check retention and data handling. Find out what is saved locally, whether data is sent to an account or cloud service, how long items remain, and how to exclude sensitive applications or clear stored items. Do not assume that a product’s sync is equivalent to Windows account-linked sync.
  3. Confirm compatibility and format support. Verify the current Windows 11 release and whether the manager captures the content types you actually copy, such as plain text, formatted text, images, or files.
  4. Test with non-sensitive content first. Confirm that search, pinning, paste behavior, and restart persistence work as expected before copying confidential material into the tool.
  5. Review removal and licensing. Check how to disable capture, clear history, uninstall the manager, and whether the features you need require payment or an account.

Because a clipboard manager can retain passwords, customer details, and other copied content, treat its storage and sync settings as part of the selection—not as optional fine print.
