The manufacturer lists support for boards up to 324mm × 333mm, as many as 40 feeders, and components from 0201 packages up to 32mm × 32mm. It can speed up repetitive placement work, but it is only one stage of surface-mount assembly: you still need to apply solder paste and reflow the board.
What the Boarditto 2 Pro does
A pick-and-place machine positions surface-mount components on a PCB according to placement data. Boarditto 2 Pro combines that placement process with cameras, a built-in computer, Boarditto Software v2, and a seven-nozzle rapid tool changer. Amoeba Robotics describes it as a way to turn a desk into a PCB assembly line, but the machine does not fabricate bare PCBs, apply solder paste, or reflow solder.
The manufacturer’s published specifications are:
| Specification | Boarditto 2 Pro |
|---|---|
| Maximum PCB working area | 324mm × 333mm (manufacturer specification) |
| Feeders | Up to 40 (manufacturer specification) |
| Component package range | 0201 (0.3mm × 0.6mm) through 32mm × 32mm |
| Maximum component height | 23mm |
| Minimum chip-package pitch | 0.2mm |
| Placement rate | Up to 2,100 components per hour with vision; up to 3,800 without vision (manufacturer-listed maximums) |
| Cameras and tool changer | Two 4K cameras; seven-nozzle rapid tool changer |
| Computer and software | Built-in computer; Boarditto Software v2 |
| Dimensions and weight | 42cm × 58cm × 20cm; 8.5kg |
| Operating noise | 45–58dB (manufacturer specification) |
These are published specifications, not a guarantee of the rate you will achieve on a particular board. The stated maximum differs according to whether vision is enabled, and the machine’s setup and recovery steps also affect the time needed to complete a run.
How a Boarditto placement run works
- Secure and define the PCB. Insert it into the spring-loaded holder and enter the board dimensions in the software.
- Align the board. Teach or detect the panel fiducials so the software can locate the PCB and correct its alignment.
- Set up component supply. Configure automatic or manual feeders, trays, and component pickup settings. The product specification lists support for standard JEDEC trays.
- Train components and select nozzles. Train each component in the software and choose a nozzle suited to its size. Boarditto’s documentation warns that an oversized nozzle can draw a small component into the air tube and vacuum pump.
- Load placement data. Import centroid or pick-and-place data exported from your PCB design tool using a USB drive. For simpler boards, placements can instead be entered manually.
- Run placement. The machine selects a nozzle, picks a component, images it with the bottom camera, compensates for pickup misalignment, and places it on the PCB.
- Respond to exceptions. If a component image scores below the documented 70% match threshold, the machine rejects the part. If it cannot find a component or fiducial, it pauses and prompts the operator to retry, skip, stop, or retrain.
This workflow explains why placement rate alone is not enough to estimate job time. Board alignment, component training, loading the placement file, and handling rejected picks or missed fiducials all require operator attention.

What you need for a complete PCB assembly workflow
Boarditto handles component placement, not the rest of the soldering process. A typical surface-mount workflow also needs a way to apply solder paste—such as a stencil or paste dispenser—and a reflow oven to heat the populated board and form solder joints. Plan for those stages, their setup, and compatible consumables as well as the placement machine. The manufacturer’s published machine specifications do not establish a complete system price or say which accessories are included.
Boarditto 2 Pro versus the original Boarditto
The name covers two materially different product generations. The manufacturer’s current documentation labels Boarditto 1 obsolete and keeps it separate from Boarditto 2 Pro documentation. An independent 2019 launch report described the original machine; its announced figures should not be treated as current Boarditto 2 Pro pricing or capability.

Electronics-Lab’s June 2019 report also listed announced accessory prices for the original machine: $95 for automatic tape feeders, $20 for manual tape feeders, and $190 for an aluminum tray holder. Those are historical reported prices, not a current Boarditto 2 Pro accessory list or quote.
What to check when evaluating Boarditto
- Board fit: Compare your PCB dimensions with the stated 324mm × 333mm working area, and confirm how your board or panel is held and aligned.
- Component fit: Check package dimensions and pitch, component height, and whether the listed 0201 support covers the parts and placement tolerances in your design.
- Feeders and trays: The stated capacity is up to 40 feeders, with standard JEDEC tray support. Confirm which feeders and trays are supplied, optional, or compatible with the parts you use.
- Placement data and preparation: Verify that your EDA tool can export usable centroid or pick-and-place data and account for the work of training components and setting pickup parameters.
- Vision and rated speed: Compare the two published maximum rates with vision on and off. Ask what operating conditions the quoted rate assumes; the listed figures alone do not establish measured throughput on your board.
- Operator workflow: Fiducial setup, nozzle selection, rejected picks, and recovery from missing components can affect practical throughput. Consider how often your jobs change and how much hands-on setup they need.
- Space and service: Allow for a machine measuring 42cm × 58cm × 20cm and weighing 8.5kg. Before purchase, verify warranty terms, availability of spare nozzles and feeder support, and regional service options; the published specifications do not establish those terms.
- Whole-process needs: Include solder-paste application and reflow equipment in your process plan; they are separate from pick-and-place.
Is Boarditto 2 Pro a fit for your work?
Boarditto 2 Pro is aimed at desktop PCB assembly where automated placement is useful and its supported board and component ranges match the job. Its listed capacity is substantially different from the original 2019 Boarditto, so use the current Boarditto 2 Pro specifications for evaluation. The central practical questions are whether your design data, components, and board fit the workflow—and whether you have the separate equipment and operator time needed to complete assembly.
