A green light on an Amazon Echo usually signals communication activity: a pulsing or flashing green light means an incoming call, while a spinning or cycling green light means a call or Drop In is active. The pattern tells you whether someone is calling or a conversation is already connected.
What the green light patterns mean

Amazon’s developer guidance likewise distinguishes pulsing green for an incoming call from cycling green for an active call. Its indicator guidance uses those terms for the two states.
How to handle an incoming call
If the green light is pulsing or flashing, Alexa may announce who is calling. You can ask Alexa to answer or ignore the call; it is not the same as an already-connected Drop In or conversation. Amazon’s calling instructions explain the voice response options.
Stop an unexpected spinning green light
A spinning indicator means the Echo is in an active call or Drop In. If nobody intended to start one, work through these checks:

- End the active session: say “Alexa, hang up” or “Hang Up.”
- Check what Alexa heard: review Alexa voice history for a misheard command that may have started a call or Drop In.
- Disable Drop In if you do not want it: use the Alexa app’s device communication settings for that Echo.
- Turn off Communications for that device if needed: Amazon’s troubleshooting guidance recommends changing Drop In or Communications settings when the activity was not expected.
What if your Echo has a screen?
On an Echo with a display, the status may appear as a green bar rather than a ring. Amazon says the bar can indicate that a call or Drop In is still active after you leave the call screen. The exact animation can vary by device; Amazon’s screen-device indicator help describes the green bar.
