This managed-library workflow does not require Microsoft Visio to be installed.
Choose the right Visio XML format
These extensions represent different kinds of Visio documents, not interchangeable names for the same export:
- VDX: XML drawing format for diagram data.
- VSX: XML stencil format for the reusable objects from which diagrams are built.
- VTX: XML template format for document settings.
Aspose’s conversion guide describes these roles, and its SaveFileFormat reference names the corresponding formats.
Export to VDX, VSX, or VTX in C#
Install and reference Aspose.Diagram for .NET in your project, then load the source file and save to a new destination. Specify the enum explicitly so the intended output does not depend on extension-based format detection.

Aspose’s supported file formats list marks VDX, VSX, and VTX as both loadable and savable. It also lists VSD and VSDX as supported drawing formats, enabling conversions such as VSD or VSDX to VDX. If the output is for viewing or sharing rather than continued XML editing, the save overview also lists formats including PDF, PNG, JPEG, SVG, HTML, XPS, SWF, and XAML.
Control the save operation
For VDX or VSX output, DiagramSaveOptions lets you set the output format explicitly and configure other save behavior. The documented properties include:

See the DiagramSaveOptions reference for details. Use these options when page sizing, font fallback, or warning handling matters; the basic Save call is sufficient when the defaults are appropriate.
Deployment and conversion considerations
Aspose states that its library is written in C#, uses managed code, and can be deployed in 32-bit or 64-bit .NET applications. Its save documentation says Microsoft Office Visio is not required on the machine and that developers can work independently of Office Automation. This makes the library an option for applications that need to convert documents without launching Visio.

The documentation describes the API and supported formats, but does not establish a fidelity guarantee for every Visio feature or publish a benchmark. Validate representative files from your own workflow, especially where layout, fonts, or less common diagram features are important. Write to a new destination rather than overwriting the source, and handle file-access and conversion exceptions in the host application.
