Hunt her as a slay objective; pitfall traps, shock traps and tranquilizers will not turn the encounter into a capture.
Why you cannot capture Lunastra
Capturing a monster normally requires two steps: weaken it until it is ready to capture, then catch it in a pitfall or shock trap and use tranquilizer items. The Kiranico Monster Hunter: World trapping guide explains that Elder Dragons cannot be trapped. Since Lunastra is classified as an Elder Dragon in Monster Hunter: World, she is not eligible for that capture sequence.
That rule is about the game mechanic, not whether a hunter can place a trap item nearby. A placed trap does not create a capture opportunity for Lunastra, and tranquilizers cannot bypass the missing trap step. A Lunastra-specific community guide likewise says traps are useless against Elder Dragons.
What to do instead
Approach the quest as a slay hunt and do not spend pitfall traps, shock traps or tranquilizers expecting to capture her. Switching trap types, weakening her further or throwing additional tranq bombs will not change her eligibility.
