Yes—Intel Application Optimization (APO) can work on some 12th- and 13th-generation Intel Core systems, but support is limited to APO Advanced Mode. Those systems need BIOS support and Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology (DTT) version 11405 or newer; Intel does not promise a universal performance gain.

What changed for 12th- and 13th-generation CPUs?

Intel’s current Application Optimization overview says APO support has expanded to 12th- and 13th-generation Intel Core processors through Advanced Mode. That is a limited-support path, not the same as a blanket validation of every older processor and motherboard combination.

APO manages optimization settings for supported games. The titles available can vary with processor and system compatibility, as well as Intel’s performance-uplift criteria. A game list that appears on one system may not appear on another.

What an older system needs

For limited APO support on a 12th- or 13th-generation processor, Intel specifies these platform requirements:

Intel Core i5-12600KF Desktop Processor 10 (6P+4E) Cores up to 4.9 GHz Unlocked LGA1700 600 Series Chipset 125W
  • Game and multitask without compromise powered by Intel’s performance hybrid architecture on an unlocked processor.
  • Discrete graphics required
  • Compatible with Intel 600 series and 700 series chipset-based motherboards
  • Intel and reg; Core and reg; i5 processor offers hyper-threading architecture that delivers high performance for demanding applications with improved onboard graphics and turbo boost
  • The processor features Socket LGA-1700 socket for installation on the PCB
  • Intel DTT version 11405 or newer. Intel identifies this as the minimum DTT version for Advanced Mode on these generations.
  • BIOS support and enablement. Install the latest BIOS available for the motherboard or system and enable the required feature if the manufacturer provides the setting.
  • Compatible system software. Intel recommends Windows 11 version 25H2 or later in its overview.

BIOS updates and DTT packages are supplied through the motherboard or system manufacturer. Availability and installation steps therefore depend on the specific board or PC; Intel’s processor-generation statement alone does not establish that every system can use APO.

Advanced Mode is not the same as validation

Advanced Mode can expose additional game titles, but their presence does not certify that Intel tested the exact processor and system configuration. Intel cautions that for these additional titles “neither the processor nor the specific system configuration has been validated,” and results may vary, including possible performance degradation. See Intel’s Advanced Mode guidance.

In practice, treat the game list as configuration-specific. Check whether the title is listed in APO on your own system, and distinguish a game made available through Advanced Mode from one validated for your exact CPU and platform.

Will APO improve performance on your CPU?

There is no single official percentage uplift established for all 12th- and 13th-generation CPUs. Performance depends on the game and system configuration, and Intel explicitly warns that unvalidated Advanced Mode combinations can perform worse. A listed game is not a guarantee of a measurable improvement.

Intel Core i7-12700K Gaming Desktop Processor with Integrated Graphics and 12 (8P+4E) Cores up to 5.0 GHz Unlocked LGA1700 600 Series Chipset 125W
  • Intel Core i7 3.60 GHz processor offers more cache space and the hyper-threading architecture delivers high performance for demanding applications with better onboard graphics and faster turbo boost
  • The processor features Socket LGA-1700 socket for installation on the PCB
  • 25 MB of L3 cache to boost the instruction processing and system performance
  • Intel 7 Architecture enables improved performance per watt and micro architecture makes it power-efficient
  • To boost graphics and visual quality, the chipset has a built in Intel UHD Graphics controller

For a meaningful system-to-system comparison, consider the exact processor model and number of P-cores, motherboard BIOS and DTT versions, whether the game is listed for that configuration, stock or overclocked settings, and whether Intel validated the combination or it is only exposed through Advanced Mode.

How to check your system

  1. Identify the exact processor and motherboard or PC model. Confirm that the CPU is a 12th- or 13th-generation Intel Core model and find the manufacturer’s support page for the system.
  2. Update the platform software. Check the manufacturer’s support page for the latest BIOS and Intel DTT package. Confirm that the installed DTT version is 11405 or newer.
  3. Check BIOS settings. Enable the relevant APO or platform feature if the manufacturer documents a setting for it. Names and locations vary by system.
  4. Open Intel APO and inspect the game list and settings. Availability is specific to the system configuration; Advanced Mode titles may not have been validated for that exact setup.
  5. Evaluate the result in your own workload. Compare the same game and settings before and after enabling optimization, and do not assume a gain if performance is unchanged or worse.

What Intel’s announcement does—and does not—mean

Intel’s change means APO is no longer restricted to newer generations: 12th- and 13th-generation systems can access it through Advanced Mode when the platform prerequisites are met. It does not mean every Alder Lake or Raptor Lake PC is supported, that every APO game is validated on those systems, or that a fixed frame-rate increase is assured.
