Samsung’s Micro RGB TVs use individually controlled red, green and blue LEDs as a backlight, and the announced 2026 R95H and R85H range spans 55- to 115-inch classes. Samsung says its Micro RGB Precision Color technology is certified for 100% of the BT.2020 color gamut, but that claim does not establish that Micro RGB is better than OLED in every aspect of picture quality. Samsung’s own comparison points to a trade-off: Micro RGB for brightness and color performance, OLED for self-emissive deep blacks and contrast.
What Samsung Micro RGB is—and how it works
Samsung Micro RGB is an LCD television technology that uses a backlight made of tiny red, green and blue LEDs. Samsung says each LED is smaller than 100 micrometers and that the LEDs emit light independently. The design aims to control brightness and color at the light-source level and reduce color bleed.
That differs from conventional LED TVs, which generally use blue LEDs with phosphor, and Mini LED TVs, which use blue mini LEDs with a quantum-dot sheet. Micro RGB directly controls red, green and blue LEDs in its backlight. It is therefore not the same as an OLED screen: OLED pixels emit their own light, while Micro RGB uses a backlight.
Does Micro RGB have better color than OLED?
Samsung says VDE certified its Micro RGB Precision Color technology for 100% coverage of the BT.2020 color gamut. That is a color-gamut claim, not a complete head-to-head picture-quality result. It does not by itself show how bright a particular screen gets, how accurately it displays colors at different brightness levels, or how it performs against a specific OLED model.

Samsung describes the strengths this way: Micro RGB emphasizes brightness and color performance, while OLED’s self-emissive design provides deep blacks and optimized contrast. Which matters more depends on the exact models and the room. A bright room, reflections, HDR highlights, dark-scene viewing and price can all affect the choice.
No independent head-to-head measurements against named OLED models are established here. Treat the BT.2020 figure as Samsung’s manufacturer claim backed by the cited VDE certification, rather than proof that every Micro RGB TV outperforms every OLED TV.
Micro RGB and OLED: what to compare
| Picture factor | What the available information says | What to check when comparing TVs |
|---|---|---|
| Color gamut | Samsung says Micro RGB Precision Color is certified for 100% of BT.2020. | Compare measurements for the specific models, including color accuracy and performance at different brightness levels. |
| Brightness | Samsung positions Micro RGB as a strength for brightness; no comparative measurement against a named OLED is established. | Look for measured peak brightness under comparable test conditions, particularly for HDR. |
| Black level and contrast | Samsung identifies OLED’s self-emissive pixels as a strength for deep blacks and contrast. | Consider how much dark-scene performance matters in your room and viewing habits. |
| Reflection handling | Selected 2026 Micro RGB models include Samsung’s Glare Free feature; availability varies by model. No universal comparison with OLED is established. | Check the exact model’s reflection treatment and, if possible, its performance in your room. |
| Price | The 115-inch 2025 U.S. model had a $29,999 MSRP. A current comparable OLED price or current Micro RGB street price is not established. | Compare current prices for TVs of similar size and features in your country. |
What sizes are announced, and what did the 115-inch TV cost?
Samsung’s announced 2026 R95H and R85H series cover 55-, 65-, 75-, 85-, 100- and 115-inch classes. The announcement does not mean every size is sold in every country; availability varies by market and model.

Samsung Electronics America announced the 115-inch Micro RGB TV in the U.S. on August 12, 2025, at a $29,999 MSRP. That is the announced U.S. manufacturer suggested retail price for that 2025 model, not a current street price or a price for the 2026 lineup. Current stock and pricing are not established here.
What features do the 2026 models include?
Samsung lists 4K AI upscaling, AI motion enhancement, HDR10+ Advanced, Dolby Atmos and Q-Symphony among the 2026 Micro RGB features. Feature availability varies by model, so check the specifications for the particular R95H or R85H size before buying. Selected models also offer Glare Free.
Samsung says every 2026 Micro RGB TV supports its Slim Fit Wall Mount. Paid installation support is available through Samsung.com. Confirm the local product listing for the mount and installation terms applicable in your country.
Quick Recap
How to decide whether a Samsung Micro RGB TV suits you
- Choose by room and viewing priorities. Samsung positions Micro RGB around brightness and color, and OLED around deep blacks and contrast. Think about whether you mostly watch in a bright room or prioritize dark-scene viewing.
- Compare exact model numbers. The 2026 range includes two series and six size classes, and listed features can vary by model.
- Verify local availability and price. The announced lineup is not a guarantee of availability in every country. The $29,999 figure applies to the 2025 115-inch U.S. model’s MSRP, not necessarily a current offer.
- Look for independent comparisons. A useful Micro RGB-versus-OLED test should identify the specific TVs and compare color, brightness, black level and contrast, reflections, and price under comparable conditions.
