If you use macOS, install Ghostty 1.3.1 or later in the 1.3 series rather than stopping at 1.3.0: the March 13 patch fixes a bug that could cause unintended mouse actions after focus changes.
What is new in Ghostty 1.3?
The headline change is native scrollbar support. Ghostty maintainers said, “Ghostty now has native scrollbars.” The controls use native widgets and platform styling on macOS and GTK, and appear as a minimal overlay over terminal contents rather than taking up a permanent gutter. You can drag the scrollbar knob, click the track, or use ordinary scroll gestures. (Ghostty 1.3 release notes)
Control whether the scrollbar appears
The new scrollbar setting controls visibility. Its default, system, leaves the decision to the operating system. The release information does not specify additional setting values, so consult Ghostty’s configuration documentation before using any value other than the documented default. Scrollback search and other improvements
Search terminal history
Ghostty 1.3 adds scrollback search. Use Cmd+F on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+F on GTK. Search navigation shortcuts can be configured through keybindings. (Ghostty 1.3 release announcement)

Security fix and why 1.3.1 is the better target
Ghostty 1.3.0 fixes CVE-2026-26982. In some shell environments, control characters in text pasted or dragged into the terminal could execute commands after user interaction. The release addresses that issue. (Ghostty security fix details)

Ghostty 1.3.1 followed on March 13, 2026. It fixes a macOS regression in which phantom mouse events after focus changes could trigger unintended dragging, selection, or scrolling. The patch also adds progress-style and direct title-setting actions, improves window placement behavior, and prevents automatic one-time-code inputs from appearing in the terminal on macOS. (Ghostty 1.3.1 release notes)
For users choosing a 1.3 release, 1.3.1 or a later 1.3.x patch is the practical choice, particularly on macOS. The documented phantom-event fix is specific to macOS; it should not be presented as a GTK fix.

Who benefits from the update?
Ghostty 1.3 is especially useful if you regularly navigate long terminal sessions and want a visible scrollbar without sacrificing a permanent strip of terminal space. Search makes finding earlier output easier, while native controls offer platform styling on the supported macOS and GTK builds. The release notes do not establish that Ghostty reproduces iTerm2’s broader text-editing behavior, so scrollbar support alone is not evidence of feature parity.
