Floorp says it does not know how long Mozilla will keep the previous interface available, so this is a current compatibility decision—not a promise that Nova will remain disabled indefinitely.
Why does Floorp disable Firefox 157’s Nova interface?
Mozilla describes Nova as a modernization of Firefox’s browser interface, covering toolbars, the sidebar, menus, and individual features. Firefox 157 also adds built-in light and dark themes and a compact mode that reduces spacing around toolbars and tabs. Mozilla’s Firefox 157.0 release notes date the release’s first availability on the Release channel to September 29, 2026.

Floorp’s release notes say directly: “Floorp disables Firefox 157’s new Nova interface.” They also say: “We do not yet know how long Mozilla will keep the previous interface available.” The project does not give a more detailed rationale in the cited notes. Its stated focus is handling compatibility with Firefox 157 while keeping the previous interface for now. Floorp v12.19.0 release notes
That distinction matters: adopting Firefox 157 does not mean adopting every visible interface change in Firefox 157. Floorp says it adjusted compatibility for sessions, Split View, colors, and private containers. The release does not establish that the disabled interface is slower, less usable, or otherwise inferior; no independent performance measurements or head-to-head usability study are provided.

What happens to Floorp themes and customization?
Mozilla’s theme guidance says most themes continue to work, and that themes still load with most color and image properties supported. However, the placement and appearance of some properties can change with Nova. Themes that rely heavily on background images are more likely to look different and may need review. Floorp separately warns that some of its design options or customization features may be temporarily unavailable or display inconsistently while Firefox’s interface changes are being accommodated. In 12.19, it moved 25 options that had been limited to Lepton-based designs into shared Chrome Extras settings. Those options can now be adjusted with designs including Proton and Fluerial, and existing Lepton settings are carried over during the update.

Language selection after updates
The release fixes an issue that could cause Floorp to return to English after an update even when another language was selected. Floorp says it now requests a language pack compatible with the current Firefox version.
Launching Web Apps on macOS
Floorp improved how Web Apps it creates launch from Finder and the Dock. If a macOS quarantine attribute blocks a generated app from launching, Floorp removes that attribute from the generated app only; the release notes say this does not alter quarantine settings for downloaded files generally. Existing Web Apps switch to the updated launch method when their launchers refresh.
Experimental native App Shim
A native App Shim can give a Web App its own macOS app window and Dock identity. Floorp says it is testing this experimentally with 20% of macOS users through Floorp Flasco. It remains disabled outside that experiment and is not ready for general use; regular Web App features remain available.
