Some iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max owners are reporting intermittent speaker noises, including crackles, ticks, pops and clicks. The complaints are anecdotal: coverage published September 29–30, 2026 does not establish how common the issue is, what causes it, or whether it is a hardware defect. iOS 27.0.1 has not emerged as a dependable fix.
What iPhone 18 Pro owners say they are hearing
Reports describe a range of sounds rather than one consistent symptom: “crackling and popping,” a “faint tick or pop,” random clicking, and, in one account, raspy audio at high volume. One owner quoted by Macworld likened the noise to “almost as if someone is pulling out an aux cord.” That is a description of an individual experience, not a technical diagnosis.
Some owners identify the earpiece speaker, while others are unsure whether the sound comes from the upper or lower speaker. Complaints involve both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max; the available accounts do not show that one model is more affected.
When the reported noises occur
Owners have associated the sound with different activities, including app switching, volume changes, voice dictation, notifications, the keyboard appearing, cellular calls, toggling Airplane Mode and quickly changing screen brightness. These reports do not establish a repeatable trigger: the circumstances vary from account to account.

The coverage aggregates forum and social-media accounts, not a controlled survey. It confirms that complaints exist, but cannot establish the share of devices affected or whether the reports point to a single underlying problem.
Does iOS 27.0.1 fix the speaker issue?
There is no reliable indication that it does. MacRumors noted that iOS 27.0.1 had just been released for a separate Face ID-related restart bug; its report did not identify a speaker fix. Accounts collected by Macworld after the update were mixed: one owner said updating helped, while early feedback included reports of no improvement. Those individual experiences do not prove that the update caused a change in either direction.

Macworld recommended contacting Apple. Because the cause and an official remedy have not been established in the cited coverage, an update, settings change, replacement or repair should not be treated as a confirmed solution. Describe the sound and the circumstances in which it occurs when you contact Apple, and ask for device-specific guidance.
As of Macworld’s September 30, 2026 coverage, Apple had not made a public statement about these reports. The cited articles do not establish an official service program or a speaker-specific software fix.
