If Mission Control or switching Spaces feels slow on macOS 27 Golden Gate, first check your exact macOS build and install any compatible update. Apple documented two specific fullscreen-related Mission Control problems in Beta 3 and later marked them fixed in its Release Candidate notes. A freeze or missing animation while changing Spaces is a separate, anecdotal report—not a confirmed universal bug. The material available here does not establish a Stage Manager-specific lag defect.
Start with your macOS build and available updates
Before trying workarounds, record your Mac model and the full macOS version and build shown in Apple menu > About This Mac. Release stage matters: a problem listed in beta notes may not apply to a later build.
- Open Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update.
- Install a compatible update if one is offered, following Apple’s guidance to back up your Mac before upgrading.
- After updating, check whether the same behavior still occurs and note the new version and build.
Apple says macOS 27 updates include improvements to stability, performance, or compatibility and recommends that macOS 27 users install available updates. That is a reason to check Software Update, not a guarantee that an update will fix a particular Spaces or Mission Control symptom. See Apple’s macOS upgrade guidance.
Check whether the symptom matches Apple’s documented fullscreen bugs
Apple’s macOS 27 Golden Gate Beta 3 release notes listed two Mission Control-related issues: the Dock might remain visible while entering or leaving Mission Control with an app in fullscreen, and a window might be lost when exiting fullscreen through Mission Control. Apple’s Release Candidate notes later list both issues as fixed, so do not assume they affect every macOS 27 build.

If a fullscreen window seems to disappear
For the affected beta-era lost-window case, Apple’s workaround was: “Switch to the fullscreen window’s space first, then click the green button to exit fullscreen mode.” In practice, move to the Space containing that fullscreen window, then use its green window button to leave fullscreen instead of exiting through Mission Control. The workaround is relevant to the specific documented case, not a general remedy for slow Space transitions. See Apple’s macOS 27 Golden Gate release notes.
If the Dock stays visible around Mission Control
The persistent-Dock behavior was also listed in Beta 3 notes and later marked fixed in the RC notes. Check your build and update status before treating it as an unresolved problem; the cited notes do not provide a separate user workaround for this Dock issue.

For general slowdown, check apps still running in the background
Apple notes that some apps continue working briefly after you quit them—for example, to finish tasks or continue other work—and that this can slow Mac performance. This is a general performance check, not an established cause or proven fix for Mission Control animation lag.
- Quit the apps you do not need, then see whether the slowdown changes.
- If an app is still running in the background, Control-click its Dock icon and choose Stop Running in Background, when that option is available.
- Reopen the app if you need it again. Change one app at a time so you can tell whether the behavior is associated with it.
Apple describes this behavior and option in its guidance on apps running in the background.

If switching Spaces freezes or loses its animation
An Apple Community thread dated September 15, 2026 includes a user’s report of Mission Control freezing for about a second when switching Spaces, followed by an immediate switch without the usual animation. Other participants described different behavior. These reports are anecdotal: they do not establish how common the issue is, its cause, whether a particular Mac model is affected, or a verified fix. The official release-note issues described above are different fullscreen symptoms.
If the slowdown reproduces, keep a short record to make the problem easier to describe:

Apple’s community discussion is evidence of individual reports, not a controlled comparison across Macs. If you report the problem to Apple, these details help distinguish a reproducible symptom from a general impression of lag.

The available official release notes and community report do not establish a Stage Manager-specific lag bug or a verified Stage Manager remedy. If Stage Manager alone is slow, describe that separately from Mission Control and Space-switching symptoms; do not assume the fullscreen issues Apple listed explain it.
