The desktop GeForce RTX 5050 currently on sale is an 8GB GDDR6 graphics card. A March 2026 report described a possible 9GB GDDR7 version, but that specification comes from a leaker—not NVIDIA—and no confirmed launch date or price is available. For buyers, the practical question is whether the current 8GB model is good value for 1080p gaming, not whether an unannounced refresh is guaranteed.

Is NVIDIA making a 9GB RTX 5050?

There is no official confirmation of a 9GB desktop RTX 5050. NVIDIA’s desktop specifications describe an 8GB GDDR6 card with a 128-bit memory bus. The 9GB version is a rumor reported by Tom’s Hardware on March 5, 2026, based on a claim by leaker Zed__Wang. NVIDIA has not published a product page, price, release date, or market listing for that configuration.

According to the reported leak, the possible card would use 9GB of 28Gbps GDDR7 on a 96-bit bus, while retaining the GB207 GPU die and 2,560 CUDA cores. Tom’s Hardware calculates theoretical memory bandwidth at 336GB/s, compared with 320GB/s for the current design—a 5% increase. These are reported specifications, not verified product details; the narrower bus means the higher memory speed alone does not establish how much faster games would run. Read Tom’s Hardware’s report on the leak.

What the confirmed desktop RTX 5050 offers

NVIDIA’s desktop RTX 5050 specification lists 2,560 CUDA cores, a minimum base clock of 2.31GHz, 8GB of GDDR6, and a 128-bit memory bus. It has 130W board power, uses one PCIe 8-pin power cable, and NVIDIA recommends a system power supply of at least 550W. Check the requirements of the specific card you are considering, since partner models can differ in dimensions and cooling. NVIDIA’s RTX 5050 specifications.

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5050 WINDFORCE OC 8G Graphics Card, 8GB 128-bit GDDR6, PCIe 5.0, WINDFORCE Cooling System, GV-N5050WF2OC-8GD Video Card
  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
  • Powered by GeForce RTX 5050
  • Integrated with 8GB GDDR6 128bit memory interface
  • PCIe 5.0
  • WINDFORCE cooling system

The card is based on NVIDIA’s Blackwell generation and supports DLSS 4, fourth-generation ray tracing, fifth-generation Tensor Cores, Reflex, Broadcast, and ninth-generation NVENC. These features can be useful, but their presence does not guarantee a particular frame rate: results depend on the game, settings, resolution, and whether the game supports the relevant feature.

Is the RTX 5050 good enough for budget 1080p gaming?

It is aimed at 1080p play and is a substantial step up from the RTX 3050 in Tom’s Hardware’s testing. The same review found that it generally matched the RTX 4060, but judged the card overpriced at its $249 launch price. Its results also show why 8GB should be treated as a real constraint rather than a footnote: some games can run into performance challenges, including cases where Blackwell Multi-Frame Generation did not work as desired even at 1080p. For a budget build, consider the RTX 5050 if your target is 1080p and the current price makes sense against alternatives available in your market. Compare actual prices and independent testing for the RTX 5060, RTX 4060, Intel Arc B580, and AMD cards before deciding; prices and value vary by retailer and date. If you play newer, memory-intensive games, want more room for demanding textures, or expect to keep the card for several years, the review’s 8GB caveat is a reason to compare cards with more memory rather than assume DLSS will remove every limitation.

Price and buying considerations

NVIDIA announced a $249 starting price and a second-half-of-July 2025 retail window for the desktop card. That is the launch figure, not a guarantee of today’s street price. Compare the exact card’s current price with competing GPUs before buying; the review’s value verdict applies specifically to the $249 launch price it assessed.
