To see the gender breakdown X reports for your audience, open Analytics → Audience Insights if that view is available to your account. Check the audience and date range shown before interpreting the result: X’s report may combine information people provide in profiles with X’s own inferences, so it is not verification of every follower’s gender identity.

How do I see the gender of my Twitter followers?

  1. Sign in to X and open Analytics → Audience Insights. Menu names and access can vary; X documents this route, but does not establish that every ordinary account has access to it.
  2. Find the audience details and the gender categories displayed. X says Audience Insights can include gender along with details such as language, location, keywords, handles, behaviors, platform, and interests.
  3. Check the audience definition and date scope shown in the dashboard. Confirm what the percentages or totals refer to before comparing them with another report or period.
  4. If you need to work with the audience data elsewhere, use the export option in Audience Insights when it is available.

X documents Audience Insights as a place to inspect and export audience-level data, but its guidance does not confirm the exact labels or access available in every account or region. See X’s analytics guidance.

Can I use Ads reporting instead?

Yes. X’s Ads campaign interface can show audience breakdowns by gender and offers an export option. Open the relevant campaign and inspect its Audience breakdown. This is reporting about the audience associated with that campaign; it should not be treated automatically as a complete census of every account follower. Keep the campaign and reporting scope in view when interpreting the figures. Read X’s Ads audience reporting guidance.

What does X’s gender breakdown mean?

X says it uses gender people provide in their profiles and extends that data to other people using account-likeness factors when they have not manually entered a preference. In other words, a dashboard category is information reported or inferred by X—not confirmation of an individual follower’s gender identity. Refer to it as X’s reported gender breakdown, and avoid using an aggregate report to label particular people.

X also says people can review and modify inferred account characteristics, including age and gender, through their X data. Learn how X describes inferred data and account data.

Do my downloaded X data or the API show each follower’s gender?

Downloaded X data

An X data archive can include information X inferred about the account holder, such as gender and age range, as well as lists of followers and following. X’s documentation does not say the archive assigns a gender field to each follower, so it is not a documented way to build a follower-by-follower gender analysis. See how to access and download your X data.

X API

X’s API overview describes access to public data and authorized account activity, including user and follower management functionality. The cited overview does not document an endpoint for retrieving each follower’s gender. Do not assume an API workflow can supply that field; check the current endpoint documentation and access terms before building an integration. Review the X API overview.

Do not confuse audience estimates with follower counts

X describes Ads audience estimates as potential audience-size ranges over a 30-day period. Those estimates are not actual audience metrics such as daily or monthly active users, and they are not a measured follower total or a gender-specific census. Use the relevant analytics report for the audience question you are trying to answer. Read X’s audience estimate explanation.

How to use the result responsibly

  • Describe the result as the gender categories X reports, rather than as verified demographic facts about individual followers.
  • Record which view produced the data—Audience Insights or a specific Ads campaign—and the date or campaign scope displayed there.
  • Do not infer a general gender percentage for Twitter/X users from your own audience report. The report describes its stated audience, not the platform population as a whole.
