Opera Stable 136.0.6008.80 arrived on September 30, 2026, based on Chromium 152.0.7977.134. Its main changes fix vertical-tab and pinned-tab behavior; the update also restores the VPN badge in the address bar and improves Mac onboarding. Opera lists a Linux crash involving dynamic themes as a known issue.
What changed in Opera Stable 136.0.6008.80?
Opera’s September 30, 2026 Stable announcement describes a release focused mostly on tab handling. The Opera 136 changelog identifies the release as version 136.0.6008.80 and lists Chromium 152.0.7977.134 as its base.
Vertical tabs and pinned tabs
The update makes it possible to pin a tab by dragging it into the pinned section, or unpin it by dragging it out. Opera also improved the pointer preview shown while dragging between sections and polished the pinned-tab preview layout.
Opera says it fixed several related problems: a pinned tab could be dropped only into a tab island when moving it to the regular-tabs section; dragging an unpinned tab from the pinned section back to regular tabs could crash the browser; and tab clicks could stop working after switching from vertical to horizontal layout.

Address bar and Mac onboarding
The VPN badge is shown in the address bar again. Opera also fixed a problem that made onboarding on Mac slow and unresponsive after the introduction.
Which changes are limited to Early Bird?
Opera’s announcement separately identifies several changes for Early Bird users, rather than presenting them as general Stable fixes.

- With vertical tabs on Windows, the tabs context menu now appears when clicking below the tabs.
- In the collapsed vertical-tabs view, a favicon no longer displays both a red dot and a sound or mute indicator during a meeting.

#emergency-session-restorein Early Bird. The feature adds recovery paths if normal session restoration is interrupted or fails, reducing the risk of opening to an empty session after a crash.
These Early Bird notes do not establish that emergency session restore is enabled for every Stable user.
What issue should Linux users watch for?
Opera lists a known issue in which the browser crashes on Linux when a dynamic theme is selected in theme settings. Opera’s stated workaround is to use a static theme until a fix is available. The notice does not say that every Linux configuration crashes, or identify all conditions beyond selecting a dynamic theme.

Opera’s announcement links to Stable downloads for Windows, macOS, and Linux. For Linux, Opera’s official package archive lists DEB and RPM packages for version 136.0.6008.80.
