What Larian has announced
In its Patch 8 announcement on April 15, 2025, Larian community manager Salo wrote: “Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content.” Salo added: “That means we won’t be adding any new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters, or companions.” These statements describe the planned scope of the game’s updates; they are not a new 2026 announcement.
Larian’s August 3, 2026 post about Xbox Play Anywhere announced platform availability and version updates. It does not announce new scenes or storylines for Karlach or Astarion. Platform compatibility and narrative content are different kinds of updates: the former affects where or how the existing game runs, while the latter adds story material.
Why Karlach content may sound familiar
Karlach did receive additional material in an earlier update. In its September 2, 2023 Patch 2 notes, Larian announced an optional new ending scene for her and additional character moments in Acts 1 and 2. Those additions are existing game content, not evidence of a new release. Larian’s Patch 2 announcement describes what that update added.

What Larian said about future story content
In 2024, Larian’s Community Update #26 said the studio would not add major new narrative content to Baldur’s Gate 3 or its Origin characters and companions, and that it was not making expansions or Baldur’s Gate 4. The later Patch 8 announcement gave a more specific endpoint for major game patches introducing new content. Read together, those statements do not support claims that a new Karlach or Astarion story update has been announced.

How to check a claim about a new companion update
- Look for a post from Larian on its official news channels, rather than a headline or social post repeating an unverified claim.
- Check whether the announcement describes story content—such as scenes, dialogue, or a storyline—or instead covers platform support, compatibility, version numbers, or bug fixes.
- Read the date and scope. Older patch notes can describe real additions without indicating that new content is coming now.
Where to find the existing game
For anyone who wants to play or revisit the existing game, Larian’s official Baldur’s Gate 3 page identifies the game and its Deluxe Edition. Check the platform, format, and current availability with the seller; buying an edition does not unlock unannounced future Karlach or Astarion story content.
