What is different about the Switch rerelease?
The confirmed practical distinction is format: the original versions appeared on Game Boy Advance, while the 2026 editions are downloads for Switch-family systems. The Pokémon Company also says Pokémon caught in the rereleases can be transferred into Pokémon HOME. Its announcement does not establish additional transfer conditions or a full list of changes from the originals, so claims about other differences should be treated cautiously.

How many copies have the rereleases sold?
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen together exceeded 4 million units in global cumulative sell-through during their first six weeks after release. This is a combined figure for the pair over that launch-period window—not a separate total for each game or a lifetime sales figure. The statement appears in Nintendo’s Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ended March 2026 (Online), Q&A Summary, published May 11, 2026. Read Nintendo’s briefing summary.
